A highly customized 4x4x4 cube.
This was an ordinary 4x4x4 cube in its first life. The center pieces of the top and bottom layers are trimmed down to a circle, allowing them to turn independently of the pieces around them. Then the remaining pieces are fused together. Pieces of a second 4x4x4 were used to make the 1st and 6th layers. Blocks of wood or plastic could be used to make these pieces if you don't want to sacrifice a second 4x4x4 cube to the cause.
This puzzle can still be turned like a 2x2x2 cube, leading to some very interesting shapes.
This building could only be applied to the 4x4x4s with the mechanism from Peter Sebesteny. With other mechanisms it will not work. Nowadays' 4x4x4s have those mechanisms. The KOs with a ball core are too loose for that purpose.
