In the solved state, none of the shallow layers of the Inflection Cube can be turned, even though the curve is continuous. The problem is, whenever it intersects a 2x2x2 cut, there's an inflection point (hence the name) in the curve, which causes asymmetry, blocking that layer.
As there are two types of shallow turns, there are two kinds of mixed 2x2x2 corner groups. They can exchange center pieces without locking up. Edges unfortunately do cause lockups. There is a pattern achievable by 2x2x2 turns alone (see image 3) in which every shallow cut is possible.
The puzzle could also be treated as a bandaged 6x6x6 which pattern is shown in image 5.
