A 3x3x3 placed in midturn and reoriented in its original shape. Every piece is of unique shape and therefore sticker can be unicoloured.
The principle behind this puzzle was first used by Tony Fisher for his Golden Cube, which is a shape transformed Skewb, whereas the Ghost Cube is a shape modified 3x3x3. Like the Golden Cube, the axis system is reoriented within the hexahedral shape to ensure that every piece has a unique shape. Because of this, the puzzle does not need coloured stickers to indicate the solved state, but single coloured stickers are normally used for aesthetic reasons.
The first sample was assembled by Geert Hellings shortly before Dutch Cube Day 2008.
In 2014 Meffert’s sold a mass produced version - see images 4-10. Before that, it was only available as custom hand-made puzzle.
In March 2014, four metalized versions (Gold, Silver, Purple and Royal Blue, images 11-15) were manufactured for 36 USD each. Also, a special "Jade Green" limited edition was available only for members of the Jade Club (image 16), who purchased a full set, for 39 USD. Even rarer is the Red Ghost Cube (image 15), which was made in very limited quantities, and reserved for special prizes and gifts by Uwe Meffert.
No later than 2017 followed the "Ninja Cube" without stickers but with pieces in different colours. See images 18-19.
