Ball in a cube

An overlapping cube in a very cool shape.

The Ball In A Cube is similar to the Overlapping Cube. There are an additional 12 hidden pieces that need to be positioned and correctly orientated. These pieces correspond to the middle edges on a 5x5x5 though not as straightforward to deal with. They are only properly visible between completed moves (see the second image). All moves are accessed from the exterior cube so you never have to reach in and touch the ball.

As with the Overlapping Cube it has a central block which hinders certain movement. This central block behaves like a 2x2x2-block in the theoretical 3x3x3 inside of the 5x5x5 the mechanism of an Eastsheen 4x4x4 is made of.

A by-product of this puzzle is the Mini 5x5x5 Ball. To construct the Ball In A Cube it was necessary to first construct this sphere-shaped puzzle.
Edge length: 60 mm

In 2014 came up a plan to mass produce this puzzle. Evgeniy Grigoriev got the permission from Tony Fisher to redesign it for he prospective producer. In 2018 Evgeniy presented his version, named Overball Cube, shown in images 4 and 5. Image 6 shows the final mass produced version.
