The master face turning octahedron v2 uses four logical layers of turning like the master FTO. See the separate entry. Unlike that predecessor the outer cuts on this puzzle are slightly deeper than that of the master fto resulting in a different cut pattern.
This puzzle is also similar to the Elite octahedron which uses deeper cuts than this puzzle, resulting in that being a shape mod of the elite skewb. Solvingwise the only difference between the two is that the new puzzle lacks the central triangles of the Elite Octahedron.
As a result, this puzzle more accurately represents the four layer version of the royal octahedron as they both share the same type of proportions. More specifically, the royal octahedron is technically a proportional 7 layer fto but without the outer most cuts, while this puzzle is technically a proportional 6 layer fto but without the outer most cuts.
