This puzzle was directly inspired by the medieval weapon of the same name.
The inventor claims it is a shape variant of a Cross Starminx I. This does not help much because by the time of its presentation there was no such puzzle known to the community. A Cross Starminx I would have circles on all faces which parts inside the circle would not be moved by a face turn.
The inventor decided to go a step further and allow the insides part of those circles to turn freely. Finally he decided to give the puzzle the shape of a stellated dodecahedron.
