There was a time (the nineties up to the time when mass production started again) when 2x3x3's (aka Rubiks Dominos) were so rare that collectors built there own by bandaging a 4x4x4. There are other cuboids that can be simulated by bandaging a 4x4x4 or a 5x5x5. Many of these creations simulate the cuboids only imprecise. They allow movements which a true cuboid does not. This is not true for the 2x3x3. In this case the bandaged 4x4x4 allows exactly the twists the 2x3x3 allows and vice versa.
The year given here is a safe bound. In that year this variant was already entered to the predecessors of the museum. The images were provided by Dodd Severn.
