Not only does this mod allow the puzzle to jumble(?) and create a very difficult piece type to solve (the corner pieces and the jumbling are roughly simulated by Gelatinbrain sphere puzzle 6.1.1), but it also separates the circle pieces that are normally stuck moving in pairs (which makes them a completely different piece to solve). Furthermore, this mod allows you to run into the single-edge-flip "parity" that you get with regular 4x4's (the fix is much more complicated of course). The puzzle as a whole is a very different and difficult solving challenge than the original puzzle.
