Adam Cowan created the Handlebar Cube in 2009. It is visible in the museum too. Adam connected three pairs of non-adjacent pieces with bar-like bridges and therby created a special bandaged cube.
Tunnel Cube recreates this old invention with a way more complicated mechanism and retains the cube shape.
Compared with the predecessor this variant allows more moves. The Tunnel Cube allows the "bar" between edges to stand orthogonal to those of the corners. See image 9.
In Januar 2014 the inventor presented a shape variant of this puzzle called "Invisible Handlebar Cube". It was designed to resemble the preceeding puzzle ith the additional abilities of the Tunnel Cube.
