There was a mass produced Rubiks Magic with 8 tiles. Its objective was to "create the cube" which means folding it into the shape of a cube.
This original version had two obsolete tiles dangling out of the cube. The inventor of this new variant seemingly wanted to tackle that problem and created a version with only 6 tiles which can be folded into a perfect cube.
