A cube which is hollow and can be opened when solved.
The Gift Cube was designed and presented by Oskar van Deventer in 2010. The idea was conceived by Matthew Farnsworth. Matt had this idea of a special Rubik's Cube with a ring inside. The girl who would solve the cube and find the ring would be forever his. Matthew had already found the right girl, as his girlfriend Mindy can solve a Rubik's Cube. However, he did not yet have this special Rubik's Cube. Matthew contacted Oskar for help after seeing Oskar's Hollow Cube and the hollow Turn Apart.
Gift Cube is a Rubik's Cube with a spherical cavity inside. The 26 pieces link together with dovetail connections. Some of these dovetails have notches. When the Gift Cube is solved, you can take off the top layer and get the content out of the cube.
The story of Matthew and Mindy came to a happy end but the story of the puzzle didn't end at this point as Uwe Meffert discovered the Gift Cube and started to mass produce it under the name "Treasure Chest". The mechanism has not changed but fluorescent tiles are used instead of stickers. The "chest" comes filled as it it delivered with an USB stick of 4 GB capacity. The Treasure Chest was purchasable only via the Jade Club.
Edge length: 60.3 mm (slightly bigger than Rubiks Cube)
