A 2x2x2 with an additional layer on each side. It behaves like a subset of a 4x4x4.

There are several alternative names for this puzzle which all togehter describes its properties.
Octahedral Cross 2x2x2: The principle of the cross cube is taken to the 2x2x2 here.
Mini Dogic: The faces look like that of the Dogic and the twisting capabilities are similar.
Skewb Diamond impostor: It looks like a Skewb Diamond but twists completely different.
Subset of 4x4x4: Since it was built from a 2x2x2 and received additional layers on each side it behaves like a subset of the 4x4x4. It contains only the face cubies and the inner cubies (usually invisible) of the 4x4x4.
There was only one specimen of this puzzle until several were rebuilt starting in 2009. The one shown here was made by Sanne Marx.
Edge length: 65 mm
Weight: 122 grams

Beginning 2017 a mass produced version hit the market under the name "2x2x2 Transform pyraminx BaMianTi". In this incarnation it is a member of a series of four variants.

In 2019 Kevin Uhrik created his own version specifically designed to resemble a Dogic. See images 6-9.
