Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,
Rhomdo Transformer is a hybrid of Eric Vergo's Rhomdo, the Face-turning Rhombic Dodecahedron by Eithan Cher, and Tony Durham's Skewb. The puzzle has 16 axes, namely 4 Skewb axes at the core and another 12 axes of the Rhomdo. The interesting aspect of this puzzle is that the outer 12 axes do not have a fixed position. They move around, depending on the state of the inner Skewb. This puzzle jumbles. Its geometry is similar to Tom van der Zanden's Helicopter Skewb.
More background info from Eitan Cher: pirsquared wrote:The Rua ( TP forum, museum, video) and the Toru ( TP forum, museum, video) are two Face-Turning Rhombic Dodecahedra (at two different cut-depths) made by Matt Shepit (forum member the.drizzle) way back in 2008. Turned out David Pitcher made his own version of the Rua even earlier, but didn't post it until sometime in the last year or two (can't find the link...). In 2010 Eitan Cher made an FTRD that was shallower-cut than the Rua. The Rhomdo Transformer looks to be at the same depth as that FTRD.

Can you do 60° skewb turns followed by rhomdo moves, in a similar manner to the helicopter skewb?

What a great idea! I love the Rhomdo but it's too hard to just casually solve. I bet the extra freedom of the Skewb makes the initial unjumbling of this harder but the subsequent solving easier. Very nice.
If you do the partial Skewb turn that puts the puzzle back into the shape of a rhombic dodecahedron is there any adverse effects like blocking? That is, can you solve it in the rhombic dodecahedron shape and then undo the partial Skewb turn?

In its rhombic dodecahedron state, none of the 4+12 axes are blocked. Does that answer your question?

Yes it does! What a neat idea. Solve it in an easier geometry and then put it back in its original solved-state geometry. I can't think of any other puzzle like this.

Beautiful, crazy puzzle!
A few corrections to the puzzle's intro information:
The Rua ( TP forum, museum, video) and the Toru ( TP forum, museum, video) are two Face-Turning Rhombic Dodecahedra (at two different cut-depths) made by Matt Shepit (forum member the.drizzle) way back in 2008.
Also, "Eri k Vergo" should be "Eri c Vergo."
