Hey forum,

This is my nightmare 3x3 puzzle. Although it may appear to be a normal 3x3, Its actually quite a bit more complex! There is hidden internal bandaging that blocks certain moves from being done. The puzzle is designed in such a way that when it is in its solved state, all moves are available. As the puzzle is scrambled, the internal bandaging interferes with itself, and some moves become blocked; an interesting property about the puzzle is that the slice moves are always available on every axis, no matter how many moves are blocked.

Solving the puzzle is a real challenge, because all of the bandaging is hidden. Figuring out what algorithms can be run in a given state is extremely difficult.

Expect this puzzle to be for sale on shapeways within the week (for a very good price).

Sweet! But I definitely would not want to solve it.

Wow. Nightmare Cubes do give me nightmares. They scare me. Nevertheless, very impressive! :)

Wow, I'm curious to see the mechanism. I'll probably get it when it's available!

A puzzle where slices are always possible, but surface turns not?
Very clever, whatever method you used.
Will there be a version that reveals the puzzle's current state?

Nice idea.

Is that a hint how the puzzle was built? I would assume a 2x2 Nightmare Cube as a core, the corners extended to the outside, and the edges and centers suspended to the corners, a bit similar to the Mixup Cube. Am I close?

Nice idea, another thing that would be cool, i don't think it was made before, but an 3x3 that only offer an certain number of turn by side, and after it blocks, and to unblock it you need to do the move inverse, and with that concept you can do somme variants witht the number of turns by side.

There seems to be potential for a Nightmare Mixup Cube, if this is the case.

I mean like 10 turns, and after block, nore only 3, or less. But yeah, for the nightmare cube it could been a way, but i don't think it's like that.

I *think* that the bandaging is with the opposite pieces. for example, the red/green edge is bandaged to the red/blue edge, and the same thing with corners.
