Dear moderators,

I'd like to be able to see the User ID History of a member, just like is possible on eBay. Quite often I see a 'new' member with a high post-count. And I'm left guessing who this is. Yes, it's common sense to mention your old ID in your signature for a while, but as the majority doesn't do this, I'd like to be able to look up any former ID myself.

What I normally do is look through the post history and find where someone quoted one of their old posts. That should have their old name.

G confused me for a while!

It's spelled "G" but it's pronounced "Throat Warbler Mangrove."

(I think I'm entitled to a frivolous post every 3 months or so.)

Is it just me, or can nobody else see any past posts from G?

PS And I wished the nicknames could never be changed, instead of the current... schizophrenic status! It doesn't make sense to me, as you choose it, then keep it, so why change it? (I guess, to confuse all others?)

I personally prefer that everyone would just use their real-life name. It makes things much more personal. Fortunately I have seen instances where people start out with a silly nick, but eventually change it into their real-life name. That's why I want to keep the option that you can change your ID.

By the way, we think you're confusing Schizophrenia with Dissociative Identity Disorder.

The internet can be nasty sometimes, and I understand that some people do not wish to use their real name. For those who trade with others, this is trivial anyway. The change of nickname though *can* be confusing.

However, if I started using my real name, no one would know who I am. I've been going by reeeech for well over 10 years! My mom even calls me that!

Well, that's why I said "real-life" name, not "real" name.

Georges, unfortunately, only 3 e's! But who am I to correct my mom?!

Allow me to generalise that.

I guess if someone is puffing (e.g. from jogging), then without a proper breath, he/she would have some trouble keeping the continuity of the last "e"s.

It may also be useful to see a "Changed User ID on mm/dd/yyyy" or the like. And maybe write out the month to save some confusion. (Americans like to do things backwards, don't we?) It would just help out when seeing a new name especially if they're relatively new (or not )

I think that this would be very helpful. I had no idea who Mac Intosh was. I used to be bluepen555 (I think. I might have just been bluepen, or bluepen5)

It's one thing to change your name, but changing your name and avatar at the same time should be discouraged.
