Now that we have a building forum, it might be nice to make a few sticky topics like this:


Painting
Materials
Mold Making
Tips and Tricks
Mechanisms and/or Patents
Modding Links

I can imagine the building forum is going to go over these topics again and again otherwise, right?

What do you think?

I think, one sticky topic is enough.
There the reader will be redirected to the articles section.

Now, we only need somebody to write those articles...

i think the site should have the stuff that io said because in order to build a puzzle you have to find out how to mold painting ect.

They don' t have to be sticky you could just use the search function and that
would give more results.

I'm not so sure about "just using search"
People tend not to, and even then, it's difficult to know whether what you've found is relevant, especially when you've just started. Knowing EXACTLY where to look is a powerful thing.

I have to agree with Andreas. One sticky topic with a bunch of links would be more efficient, though slightly more difficult.

We'd just need somebody to start it and act as a pseudo moderator for that post and edit it as new threads arise and are suggested by others.

Yesh, TBTTyler's idea sounds good.

I have only been hovering on the forums for 6 months or so, but I still find it difficult sometimes to find what I'm looking for easily. I know there are some real gems out there. if you can wade through hundreds of search misfires..

Come to think of it, maybe I'm really thinking of something best accomplished with articles...

I'm not sure articles alone are the best way to go.

They are (in my mind at least) more of a closed document. New information can't be added easily which means that somebody would have to do some amount of clerical work which I think isn't all that fun.

Linking to specific threads, perhaps with a "check out the posts from whoever" qualifying it would make these threads very fast and easy to update while keeping them up to date.

This kinda sounds like a wiki, but unlike a wiki everything written is still there. Plus a wiki is just one more place to look, and since people are lazy (I know I am) they will be less likely to check this extra page or, more importantly, add to it.

However, I do think some linked articles are a good idea. Complete and organized thoughts are a good thing.

One post to link them all.

I think in addition to an index thread, as has been suggested, it might be a good idea to create non-sticky consolidated threads.

There are times here when someone asks a question and is given a pile of links to other threads. If the useful information on a given topic really is spread across four or more different threads I think it may be time for it to be put in one place even if that might mean having to answer the same question more than once.

So, going back to the original suggestion, you might have one sticky index thread and that links to official threads for:

Painting
Materials
Mold Making
Tips and Tricks
Mechanisms and/or Patents
Modding Links

And if anyone has something new to add or ask about on those topics they would do so in the thread linked to in the index.

Meh, that's not a problem, it's not like we don't do that anyway. However, it will hopefully cut down on duplicate threads.
