Hi all,
I was messing about with the principle of "bumping" puzzles and ended up with this "bumped" Square-1, which is not so square now!
Hence I called it "Not-So-Square-1" :D
See what you think!

Vadim, I like it! Interesting idea. I'd call it "Square-Not" which is similr to "Square-1". 8-)

I like it, it's clever!

Did you use the new DIY square-1 "kit" cube for this mod? If so, have you come up with a way of cleanly taking off the side bits that cover the screw? I have gotten a few apart so far, but it has not been fun...

Although I dislike the square-1, I love the design of this Not-so-Square-1 / Square-Not!

Whats it like to solve? Assmuing you have mixed it up that is.

I've always loved the Bump cube as the Square-1. I love this design even more.

Just another puzzle I would love to have.

You should put some silver stickers on it similar to the actual bump cube. Or make one of each.

Oh My God... Vadim... what did you do?
You took a Square-1 and changed its coordinate system??? LOL

Looks magnificent. It is a... Bump-1! :P

Thanks everyone for your comments!

Aleksey, I do like the name Square-not! It's a bit shorter as well.
I did not want to use Bump-1, Pantazis, as it would use Hidetoshi's idea and we recently had a few problems here and there with copyrights etc.

I did not try messing-up/solving it as I am not that good at solving Square-1s as it is, hence I am not tempting my fate.

I did not use new chinese DIY kits. I still had a few original Square-1s. I agree, drizzle, it's a pain, trying to pry off the lid to access the screw. Some of them are better than others, though I thought DIY kits won't have it glued on at all.

Good idea about silver stickers. Though the stickers I've got are too shiny and look black at certain angles.

What a cool puzzle, Vadim !
Conguratulations !

And I was gotten the jump on you, because I'm planning to make Bump-1, too. ;)
Now I'm making same size of Square-1 to identify only height. Of course, I'll make it to mirror silver one.

LOL!

I would love to see your design too Hidetoshi san! :)
And by giving it a silver touch will look like Bump Cube's brother!

:)

I am glad you liked my design Hidetoshi, but I did not want to use name "Bump-1" as it's not a true "Bump" design + it belongs to you.
I am glad it inspired you to make another great puzzle!

Thanks both,

I originally thought to make a full bump Square-1.
But then I thought it would be more like copying Hidetoshi's idea of his bump cube.
Hence I still used his method of applying different thickness to pieces, though I changed it's shape to a cuboid.

Just as I was rereading through this thread, I was thinking to myself... "I wonder what it would look like if he kept the original dimensions of the puzzle..."

Lo and behold, Hidetoshi is doing that apparently. :P

I was actually hoping that Hidetoshi will take the idea of true bump square-1 as it's a bit more complex mod than the one I produced and not sure I would have time and skill to make it right.
