Actually, it will confuse more.
Especially as it sounds similar to the name of another member here! ;)

Dead? It was a thread that I obviously missed! ;)
(plus, it took me two weeks, not two years).

It took me a while to find it because of so many other unrelated messages that have flooded this place LOL
I stopped looking at the unchecked message-signs a few weeks ago, as there is no point using them any more.

But why am I explaining myself??? :x Grrr....

There's nothing wrong with posting in a dead thread. Considering this is basically offtopic anyways, there's no harm in it.

It seems that some of the younger people can't use some common sense and they want 100% black/white etiquette rules.

Oh geez, what have I gotten myself into? Attack of the rabid panda?

Kastelawhatever, you prove to be no threat to me! :)

As for rules, I have seen several people get very disgruntled when they aren't followed. Generally when I don't follow rules, I end up almost getting fined.... Hmm... Yeah, so I try to follow the rules when I can.

Do you ever get the impression we are the only people still in this thread?

Rabid koala... Kindof like the time my great aunt got bit by an alligator, she came down with rabies shortly thereafter.

Yes. :(

What happened to all the other people?
Maybe they are still posting at the same rate they did before but their
posts are diluted into the sea of our posts.

In fact, I believe that's exactly what's happening. I find myself just skipping over most of the topics this year. Too many pointless and unnecessary posts. Sorry. It's almost like there's need for a read-only skimmed version of the site where only good posts are visible.

The forum isn't nearly as active as it once was either. When I first got here there were tons of good posts, and lots of helpful topics. Now there isn't much of anything, except in the off topic section.

Well, you are right.

Summarising, the forum had experienced forms of different "states".

Previously, it had a "quality" state, which translated into young people's language means "boring" state.

After some relentless posting from young people regarding pointless matters it reached a "spammed" state, which translated into young people's language means "active" state.

Right now, both older and young people stopped posting, because the older ones cannot stand the pointless posts, while the young ones are a bit confused about the rules they thought were non-existent.

That's about it.

:P

I think another thing people need to recognize is that there are only 576 registered users, a _fraction_ of those (273) which actually have more than 10 posts. A further fraction of those who are currently active, etc. So this community isn't extremely large. Some of the younger members keep looking for instant gratification. I've remembered two posts recently where people were complaining they haven't gotten a response and it hadn't even been a full day yet. Members overseas probably haven't even read the post yet.

There are other things to life. You don't have to spend all your free time catching up with Twistypuzzles.com, nor should you have to. This is where the older members enjoy the "quality over quantity".

If you have spare time, then spend it practicing puzzles, or building, or some other hobby.

Nice math! I always though our community was a bit larger...

And you are right about free time. I check the forums quite often, but I am still busy with other activities. For instance, today I have several hours of homework ahead of me. Why am I still here? Because I <3 procrastination :)

Actually, the members are the "active" components of the forum. I can assure you that the "passive" compenents (i.e. unregistered visitors who just browse the forum) are a lot more.

Just as an example, I know *at least* a dozen friends of mine who browse this forum! (and none of them has registered)

Maybe even Erno himself visits us here too, and if this is true, I won't be surprised at all! ;)

But its the registered forum members that talk and add to the conversations that make this forum so active and fun. Unregistered members are just lazy, they really ought to register and talk with us :)

Not lazy, many of them are shy!

You won't believe how many people who I never knew before had contacted me for puzzle related issues. I have even traded puzzles with some of them.

And I am pretty sure that other members of the twisty puzzle forum had experienced that too!

:)

1st link. Someone started a post focusing on the (pointless) ranking topic, and then replied twice to himself. The rest of the discussion seemed polite. I don't get it.

2nd link. The author EDITED his post, which means something important is missing. Therefore it cannot be considered.

3rd link. Although the title was not specific, I can't see anything wrong.

Case closed for me. I can't take you seriously any more. Sorry.

As I said, for me this case is closed.

Feeding the forum time again with past events that you consider as rude, won't take you anywhere. Look ahead and try to be more positive.

You have to go through with this because the forums are full of logical and argumentative people (cubers, math nerds, etc) so any claim you make has to be thoroughly backed up with facts.
