No, you wouldn't - because that means you stopped the timer before the cube was solved, which is a DNF. Two of those and you don't even have an average!

This is a bit of a big accomplishment!

I just got my first successful BLD attempt!

5:24.59!

This was my second ever attempt! My first was also 5:24.xx, but two corners were disoreinted!

I love this!

I just did, I just got an 18.xx! I say 18.xx, because instead of stopping JNetCube, I opened another program. So I just had a glimpse of 18.00 before the other program opened!

Average: 24.34 seconds
Individual Times: 26.25, 25.08, 23.60, 26.40, (29.68), 25.01, 22.55, 20.12, (18.00), 25.30, 22.83, 26.27

Anything above 26 or so, feels slow for me nowadays. Anything lower than 23 is fast!

I know what you mean. I got that nice average of 22, and now 24s seem very slow, even though they are only 2 seconds above average :(

I've also begun expecting more 20 second solves, I am trying to break down that mental barrier that is holding me back. I can do this!

Oh nice, a 1.01! I've been getting a couple of sub-1 solves recently, and I hope to get one at my next competition. I can't practice much, though, because I don't have a lot of strings left!

A weird tip: try lubricating the tiles just (maybe 10-15 minutes) before taking an average. This can take you down 0.05 second or so.

Yeah, spray the edges and corners of the tiles. It wouldn't hurt to get some on the rest of the tile too, but it isn't necessary.

This is a negative achievment. I lost my cube, well forgot it. Not as bad as the time one of mine got stolen.

I did an 4x4x4 scramble (40 moves on Jaap's program) in 18.84 seconds. My first sub-20!

And something more important - I got my first sub-3 Megaminx solve (2:45.62). I did it on one of those Chinese knockoffs.

Hi,

Today I broke 2 minutes on average with the Megaminx - 1:59.10

Now my biggest achievement will be to actually get some work done.

Dan

Whoa, 2:45?? I really need to start working at minxing, my best is only 5:24 (I think)

Congrats!

Ah, the Megaminx is just like the 3x3x3 F2L, except that the recognition is hellish, and the last layer takes more steps.

I'm sure Erik can tell you more...

I actually use Erik's method

As for my accomplishment, I learned to commute edges on a 4x4, if they are all oriented (I am in the process of learning K4)

Also, one of my friends that I taught has gotten his second sub 60 solve ever. I am very very proud, as he learned my method 100% (LBL with an altered LL). I feel like I accomplished something in getting one of my friends to sub 60 (he is the third, I believe...)

Nice solve... If you hate that cube that much, get a new one!

And then send the hated one over here to me, I could always use a new puzzle :)

I had a 25.25 earlier today on OH, and then a 24.74 just now. The 24.74 was about 18 seconds after OLL, and if the PLL had been a better case it could have been much lower.

I solved almost all of my megaminx today, I just can't do the last layer by myself! Hopefully i'll eventually make sense of Erik's page. (or I could use Stefan's)

Oh man, I just have to write this down somewhere.

21.04 OH solve, OLL-skip and G-perm. The permutation was at above-average speed...

EDIT: Today (5/19) I did a 4x4x4 solve with feet. I've never done anything with feet before, but I felt like doing 4x4x4 for some reason... it took 18:37 but I'm going to practice some more.

I put the cubesmith textured tiles on my cube, and on my first solve I got a 20 second f2l (crazy fast for me), and set a new personal recored of 47.30, slighty lucky.

That's good Erik, I did worse than that on my first day (and I used the first step from speedy's solution ). You get better fast with snake, I leveled out at around 5 seconds. My fastest was 4.50, which is why Johannes still has the UWR, no one can keep practicing it past 4 or 5 seconds, it takes a lot of patience after a very fast improvment like that.

Now that's not true; I was getting low 3's when I stopped, and I can probably go a bit faster. But it's not an official event, and the Snake is very noisy (and somewhat sharp), so it's more valuable for me to practice something else.

I like to find weak holes in records and improve the records there... ideally, all records for a given region should be equally difficult to beat (and that is, in fact, one of my goals), so if it's easier to beat the national record for X than to beat it for the 3x3x3 cube, I'm going to be practicing X a lot. Anyway, the Snake UWR is extremely difficult to beat, so I don't really feel the need to improve it. That means that once I'm satisfied with my Snake times I don't have much motivation to improve anymore.

I only stopped because Snake will never be an official event from what I've heard. It's sad, but I can't do anything about it. And now I can to go to official competitions, which means that I want to practise official events. I could get sub-1.5 and probably pretty close to 1 second, but there's ne reason to try unless someone improves the UWR.

Really, that low? Are you sure? I'm not sure I believe it... I mean, if I could cut that much time off my Magic times (and I don't think I'm better at Magic than you are at Snake) I'd easily have UWR.

I'm sorry that the Snake won't be an official event (or at least won't be one under the current WCA leadership)... I've got a few events myself that I know will never be actual events but that I'd love to see in competition.

I'd have to change my method, because the way I'm doing it isn't "optimal". I basically know how it should be done, using both hands simultaneously and squeezing it into a ball in one continuous motion without regripping. I have planned finger tricks for it, but it took 4+ seconds last time I tried because I'm not used to it at all and make lots of mistakes. But it would be crazy fast if someone had enough motivation to master it (I don't).

Can you make a video/tutorial, or teach me how to do it? I'd give the method a try (and eventually master it, because I love dexterity-type events) if you think it's that much better than what we've been doing.

Johannes, I am insane about the snake. Share your knowledge, it would be great for me, seeing as I can only get a new PB average of 4.83 without practicing in a week. I am going to start working harder at this puzzle, I want sub 2!

What are your current snake times? I would like to know how I do compared to the crowd, I think that this is actually a puzzle I could get good at.

My best time is 3.15. My average would probably be around 4 to 4.5 seconds, but I don't care about averages on dexterity puzzles (since there is no luck).

My best time is only 4.3, average is 4.83. I seriously need to fix my method a bit, it really sucks atm...

Today, I...

1) broke my 4x4x4 PB with a time of 1:39.24
2) leaned Ortega for 2x2x2 and droped my average from 13 to 8
3) learned to solve the Pyraminx more efficiently and dropped about 20 secs off my previous average.

I think that's something to be proud of. :D

EDIT: btw. I just noticed that I now have a ranking of 4x4x4.

Today I achieved my personal best 3x3 average and single solve

Average: 21.87 seconds
Individual Times: 22.38, 20.53, 21.89, 20.53, 25.08, 24.88, (17.72), 18.97, 21.05, 22.31, 21.06, (25.48)

I finally finished learning all of the OLL algs today (took me over 2 years!) and took this average. I'm still getting used to some of them so I expect to be sub-20 soon...

Yeah, and learning 1-look LL would be great for someone who averages above 30 seconds. I got sub-2 with a relatively simple method that required regripping twice, so just keep practising if you want to get faster. When you get close to your limits you can try some more advanced stuff, but for now it would just slow you down.

If you guys are so interested, then just try it. Do the first 4-5 moves with your left hand, and the same thing (but mirrored) with your right hand at the other end of the Snake. Then just continue with your both hands simultaneously (witout regripping, it's the key) until it's solved. I can't make a video at the moment, but after all I haven't tried this too much so there are probably some improvements to be found.

I'll have to work on that... Mirroring the moves is going to be hard for me, but I think that your idea could end up being very very fast if somebody really worked at it.

he's been working on other puzzles (i think) he took a 4x4 average yesterday. I think he has a life besides cubing. I don't think that's it though, his pc was giving him trouble before so :p

I have a life outside of cubing, but if I couldn't cube for a day or two I'd have to find something to do with my hands.
