The 5x5 took me a good part of a day(on and off), to solve the first time. While figuring it out. Although, I have to say, I couldn't figure the single edge parity out, I used bigcubes.com for that.

single edge parity? Flip over the edge and it becomes a double edge
As my my new accomplishment, I just got a 23.2 Average. Sub 23 should be coming sooner or later. I was really in the zone for this average!

I broke my 5x5x5 one-handed record again (4:24.14). I wish this was an official event... I'd like to see some other people doing it.

There are a bunch of other people on the one-handed 5x5x5 list on speedcubing.com, but nobody else has updated recently.
Sometimes I think that even I am not as crazy as me.

Last night I sat down with my 3x3, turned on some good music, and started solving. I got a bunch of good times, and then some 27's or so. In the end, after like 14-16 solves, my best average of the session was 23.2. New 3x3 PB average!
I then got out my snake and started solving. A few minutes later, I was sub 5- 4.91. New PB again!
I took out my minx, did a single solve, and broke my PB by 20 seconds or so. My new PB is 5:04.
4x4 came next... But I got a 3:03, so nothing good came from that one
3 averages in one night, that was fun!

I just started solving today, and then broke my PB a few times, and then got that average, I haven't played it properly for over a month, I am going to start practising it more often, Stefan beware!

I just did another 10x10x10 solve and got 18:47.656. This is the first time on that cube that my fingers actually got tired of clicking fast...
Oh, and congrats to Pembo... you're getting really good at the Clock. I need to work on that more!

Good luck learning the Square-1. I still haven't memorized the ~30 algorithms of my method, but I will at some point.
Instead of thinking in terms of angle, just think that an edge piece counts as 1 and a corner piece counts as 2. That makes it much easier to visualize.

I was about to post and say that that doesn't make any sense to me, but I just realized that I can incorporate the numbers in the algs with the pieces! I'll end up working on the square one sometime tomorrow, I am waaaay too tired to bother with it tonight.

Simplest way to think of it is the average distance from the average.

Ah, that would certainly explain a lot! Glad I got that cleared up, I am just learning a whole bunch of nifty things today.
As for my recent accomplishments, I got somebody to tell me they love me! This was, unfortunately, gamemeister27 on youtube

Today I got my first Sub - 30 !
27.83
Seconds later there was a lightning strike and thunder.
I was in the middle of a 10/12 Avg
My times were:
38.13
34.83
42.36
35.57
37.02
47.42
44.83
27.83
30.01
41.74
33.14
35.61
Max 47.42
Min 27.83
Avg 37.324
Pembo mentioned Standard Deviation. I forgot about that day in Statistics class, how do you find it? why use it?

I think he was using the Jnet timer, which gives you it automatically. As for why you get it, I imagine it would be to show you how consistent you are with your solves.

Yeah, if you watch pembo's videos you see that he's using the jnet timer in the backround. you can get the download at strangepuzzle. It provides scrambles for 2x2 -5x5 and the pyraminx. Plus you can race other people if you create a sever for it. It is the best computer timer ever. It calculates average and standered deviation, and even provides a rolling average. Sorry if this sounded like an advertisement, but stangepuzzle doesn't do it justice.

Yesterday, i got an average of 100 at 19.95, first ever sub-20 average of 100. I hope I continue to drop my times and maintain at a consistant pace. It felt good. All my good solves were around cube #s 70-90. Anyone have any idea why?
I also beat my PB average 10/12 for 3x3x3 with a new time of 18.16. Once again, that felt good.

I think your good solves coame later because you begin to get "in the zone." As you did more however, your hands probibly began to where out, bringing you out of "the zone."

If you want the full method....
Take the mean of a group of data, then take away each result from the mean.
(so so far we have barx - x (barx = mean))
Now since we have negative results, let's square every barx - x.
( now it's (barx - x)²)
Now add all the of the new values together and find the mean.
( (barx - x)² over sigmax)
Now square root the mean, and there you go.
Hope that helps

And that is why when I get my stackmat I am going to hate attempting averages... It doesn't do rolling averages for me, and it takes forever between solves to update the average.
Not unless somebody has a quick equation that I should know about

I want a stackmat, that way I don't have to be on my computer all the time. Also, I would be able to cube in my room while listening to my music. I can't really do that on the computer because Mom don't like my music very much...
I got my black cube back today! Hopefully I will do good with it, I might start using it as my main cube... The only problem is, it can't cut corners worth crap

In reality you probably won't need the standard deviation, just calculate the mean.
The sum of times(minus fastest and slowest) / (the number of times-2)

In my opinion, standard deviation is not very useful for an average of 12.
By the way, a slightly faster way to calculate the mean of a group of data, is to subtract some number X from all numbers, take the mean, then add it back at the end. So the mean of 111, 114, 118 and 125 is (111) + (the mean of 0, 3, 7, and 14) which is 111 + 6 = 117. Also, for a 'mean of 12', just cross off the biggest and smallest, and then take the mean of the remaining 12... no need to subtract or anything.
As far as accomplishments, I've been getting sort of good at my alternate column methods for 4x4x4 and 5x5x5; my best times are something like 1:29 and 2:38. The method is faster than I thought...

I wonder if there would be a fast way to calculate a running average? I know that for any normal average it would be adding all the numbers (minus the fastest/slowest) and then dividing by 10. But once you get one new number, you would have to re-do all that math...
What about Multiplying by 10, subtracting the first number, adding the next, divide by 10? Of course you would have to considered the fastest and slowest times, but the math shouldn't take that long to do if I am not mistaken...
Is there any way to put all the numbers into Microsoft Excel (or similar number program) and find the best average of 12? In that case I would just put in all my numbers at once and figure which of all the averages would be the fastest.

One way to do it in Excel would be put your times in A1, A2, ..., and then, in B12, you put a formula to calculate the average of A1 through A12, and just copy it all the way down. If you want, also, you can do a formula in C13 (and copy all the way down) that finds the best running average so far.

Nope, he just typed the numbers in, like I said Speedy should do.
CCT actually lets you connect the stackmat to the computer, but I don't particulary like the interface: CCT.

I have one you can have.
I actually have a VERY well made one for the Clock, from Sander Hendrickx (sorry for mutilation of surname), which you could always use for 3x3.

That was a PLL skip....
I am closer with the Clock, if anything. 0.25 off the WR average? I think so.
