Sub 18!!! Niiice Pembo!

I love coming to my dad's, I always do good when I'm cubing:

Last night I got a 4x4 avg of 2:50, with PB time of 2:46
I also got a new snake avg of 5.21 (almost sub 5!!) and a PB time of 4.3
Then today I sat down with my 3x3 and got a new avg of 23.35.
Finally, I got a new 4x4 PB of 2:19

The 3x3 was amazing, because I had two 28's as my first two solves. For my 13th solve I got a good time, getting rid of the first 28 and getting me a good avg. But then I screwed up and got a 30, so there was no hope of a new avg...

The 4x4 time was amazing: I tried out something new I've been thinking of for edges. I also used some dif centers to start, instead of just white. Finally, there was no parity issues to worry about. I stopped the timer and nearly fell over laughing :)

Over the weekend, I got a 2:10 on the 5x5x5, but it was lucky (two free edge groups).

Also, I did a one-handed 2+3+4+5 in 9:25.42 and a one-handed 5x5x5 in 4:25.15. That was cool.

Uh... well, I have an Eastsheen, so it's not physically taxing to do a one-handed solve, although it can be difficult to fix lock-ups and misalignments. You really need a good puzzle to do one-handed, in any event. For example, I can't even try a one-handed Megaminx solve, but Stefan can do it with one hand faster than I can with two, partly because his minx is so awesome.

Depends on what you consider fast.

Anyone slower than you is slow, therefore you are fast. Anyone faster than you is a nerd :) (Just messing with you speedy guys!)

There are lots of fast people here, Pembo is just now making his way into their ranks.

I saw Leyan Lo do some slow solves this weekend, and he can basically do a sub-20 average without going fast on anything or putting any effort into anything, not even stopping the StackMat in less than a second after PLL. So from my perspective, if you're not well below 20 seconds, you're very slow. I'm very slow, and not improving at a rate that suggests I'm ever really going to be fast at 3x3x3.

I think, in general, I consider fast to be about 150% of the WR time. So for 3x3x3 it's something like 17-18 seconds average. I don't know what you think, but this is my perspective on it. And still, 150% is a lot of improvement to do, so even when you're fast there's still a long way to go.

gamemeister: Speedy is gonna be sub 20 by the end of summer, if not before that. I don't think he will catch up to Pembo anytime soon though, unless he gets his finger bit off by something 8-)

q: Thaaaanks... I'm not sub 20, so I'm not fast? There go all my hopes and dreams....

Just kidding, I'll be fast soon :)

Oh that is very different from day to day, sometimes I don't feel like cubing and only do maybe 15/30 min but sometimes about 6 hours on a lots of cubing day. Average maybe 2 hours of real cubing (solving/scrambling)

You are right Erik. Thank you for pointing this out to me. In my surrounding I am the fastest, but here with all the speedcubers... (I never had and will never have any speed pretension, though)

@Georges: You are actually faster than many people who consider themselves speedcubers and practise hard to get fast!

That's a very good post, I agree completely. Though, I usually just say that to myself inside my head because some people (not talking about anyone here) have gotten insulted when I've said that 30-40 sec average is not very good. But you are right.

Let's see if I can get sub-20 OH before you do it two-handed! :D My best average is 21.48, but it was really easy. Sub-20 is still far away, but I hope I can get there. Maybe I'll master ZBLL in the meanwhile, who knows...

Ok, it's on! This should give me some incentive to practice! I was competing with Emile Compion (in a friendly way) for a while, but I suddenly got faster :(

Ha, now everyone is competing with me! I feel like a one man army!

I just got a 6:15 minx solve, new PB for me. I think I'm doing good for only having it 2 days.

I also got 18.81... Twice in a row! That was funny, getting a time twice in a row. I've done that with the snake before too.

speaking of the snake, i'm only .21 away from getting ahead of you w/ fastest solve. you're still better at it though, i use the method you posted on youtube. Kind of, i do the 1st 1/8 the same way, then i make the eigths up up down side, i think...

I don't use my method on youtube, I kindof do much more stuff at once :)

My method is a beginner way of doing it. I have trouble with the snake going in the wrong direction, IE I do twists that I don't want to do :(

I could easily be sub 5 if I didn't mess up so much.

I got a lucky 2:06 on the 5x5x5 today. It's my first sub-2:10 time, and I hope to get a nonlucky one soon! I love the 5x5x5 so much...

I hate you and your speed, I am going to come to your house and shoot your 5x5.

JUST KIDDING! :) :D :)

Tyler, nice snake times! I really need to get working on that puzzle, my times are suffering! :(

I've been obessing over my 4x4 and 5x5, so i haven't been paying attention to my snake either. (Still can't solve my 5x5 though... i'm so close). Now I have more time for it because my 4x4 broke...again  . I am definitly getting an eastsheen.

Dude, any 4x4 algs that you know will work for the 5x5. It's just a matter of figuring out when to apply them. The centers are fairly easy, the edges had me stumped for a while, but I figured them out on my own. That was a fun thing, figuring something out on my own like that :)
