This is by far my fastest build. It took me a few hours on two evenings. Next time I will not use Apoxie Sculpt, but just glue. So I guess you could finish this mod within 2 to 4 hours or so.
You need 4 black corners, 4 white corners and a mini 2x2x2. I used an old white cube so it would match the yellowish white of my Domino.

Image

Use a saw to remove at least 12 mm (the width of a 2x2x2 cubicle) of the 8 cornerpieces.

Image

Then attach the 8 cornerpieces to the 2x2x2. Putting in the first piece is difficult. I used 3 pieces of paper, that I stuck into the mini 2x2x2, to position the piece.

Image

I first put on the 4 black corners, for which I used Apoxie Sculpt. As I said I wouldn't use that next time. I used glue for the 4 white corners. Make sure you don't spill any glue into the 2x2x2.

Image

I used my sticker plotter to cut little circles. I wasn't sure if I should stick on the dots, or use the vinyl with the holes to spray paint the dots. But using vinyl stickers for the dots looks much better than I had expected. So I'll keep that.

Image

I do think that my Junior Domino is not yet a proper Domino. On 2 of the 3 axes you should be able to do half-turns only, so the dots can only be on top or on the bottom - as it is with a real Domino. I know that there has currently been a thread on this forum that discusses a half turns only cube. But I couldn't figure how to achieve this with a 2x2x2. Please tell me if you have an idea.
I also plan to build a 2x3 Domino (basically a black and white 2x2x3 with dots). But not any time soon. So if you want you can beat me to it :-)

Thomas

Again, another professional looking puzzle! I really want to try my hand at puzzle making at some point!

I like how you used a basic unaltered 2x2 as the base of your mod. I don't know if this is common in puzzle building, but it's new to me!

That looks great, good job. It is similar to how I built my dice 2x2. Getting the pieces aligned perfect is really difficult.

With your recent posts about your modes together with a short tutorial you whet my appetite for trying a mod myself. Thank you.

Wow, that looks very professional. Good job, Thomas! Does it have the half-turn restrictions?

Just at the bottom of the post, it says it doesn't. But he's open to suggestions of how to do this!

Proves that cuteness doesn't just work for human babies but for puzzle babies as well. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it.
