The Dogic Puzzle, is by far a more complex puzzle, than the Rubik's cube, it has 249 pieces. of theses 176 move...
A couple of years ago I had purchased several mechanical puzzles from Uwe Meffert, and after a couple of twists and turns my 5 x 5 x 5 cube fell apart, so I wrote to him, and he sent me a brand new one at no charge
(thanks Uwe), but he told me that this problem did not occur often, since the 5 x 5 x 5 cube was built around a complex mechanism, that cost close to 250 000$ to develop (the molds, times, etc.),
So I gather that, to conceive the Dogic, it must of cost several thousands of dollars too.
So why then, does the the Dogic puzzle have as many mysteries as combinations?
Apparently this puzzle was only available in central europe, probably and mostly in Hungary
(it's was manufactured there), Germany, and countries around Hungary.
Who own the patent ?,
When was it first built ?,
How many were manufactured (yearly) ?,
Imagining the amount of money it took to conceived and build, and the challenge it offers,
why hasn't it caught on ?,
Bad marketing ?, bad timing ? maybe the "teflon generation" isn't interested in puzzle of this type ?
(remember the Rubik's fad lasted from 1979 to 1983...thats 20 years ago
...maybe it's time to bring back theses classic puzzles ? )
Apart from us (mechanical puzzle enthusiast) who ever heard of Dogic puzzle ?
Is there hundreds of theses puzzles just laying around in several houses in europe not being used ?
Maybe for the average person this puzzle was/ is to difficult, making it difficult to sell ?
Theses puzzles were sold approximately for 40$ to 50$, maybe people weren't interested paying that much ?
Would they, if they were still manufactured ? ...yeah, we would, but what about the rest of the us ?
etc., etc., etc...
In the mean time, we can only hope that if the Dogics are never rebuilt in Hungary, maybe in a couple of years,
the Dogics will be produced in China, for a fraction of the price, and easily available everywhere,
but probably with stickers instead...or who knows, if ebay doesn't open up a hungarian ebay site in the futur maybe all the Dogics that are laying around will be auctioned off ?
