I finally managed to make these two puzzles. On the dodec, the three and four point pyramids are hand crafted originals both taking a week each to painstakingly file down and craft. I had to make these perfect, probably got a little too perfectionist over it but I am very happy with the final result.

Really nice! I love the perfect planes and sharp edges. Are these cast puzzles or build-ups? Did you start from Rubik's Cube and Pyraminx? Nice colors, too.

They look cool. Really is a masterpiece.
I was always wondering, where do you get the stickers from for your creations though?

For years I have thought that the the Magic Jewel, or Christoph's Jewel, was the same puzzle as the Meffert's Tetraminx. Not so! Lovely.

Great job, Wayne.
BTW, how many hours do you think you put into them overall? I suspect that in that respect they are almost priceless.
Doug.

Hi Wayne,
Now that you have made these gorgeous puzzles, what do you think of them as overall designs? How challenging are they? Which of your handmade puzzles have you found as interesting to turn, scramble, and solve as they are to look at?

Thanks, Carter. The dodec has a 3x3x3 core and the Jewel has an octaherdon core (centre block). The custom tips on the dodec were made once as a master and all pieces were cast from that.
The master is never used in the final puzzle but kept for future molds.

Congratulations! Both puzzles look fantastic.
By the way did you see Nick Baxter's recent puzzle auction? An original Magic Jewel went for $311!

Steve, was this an Ebay auction where the Magic Jewel was sold? If so, do you have the item number for this auction?
Doug.

Its the same principle. The Mefferts puzzle is a pyraminx with the tips chopped off, and this is an octahedron with the tips chopped off. So, depending on the angle you saw the puzzle at you could definitely be forgiven.

Well, the first one always takes the longest. Crafting the holder piece took about 3 days to get right. The corner and top pieces of the dodec took a week each. Making molds takes about a week, and casting can be a week. So maybe 3 weeks to a month on the first dodec. Potentially I could make one now in a few days but you'd have to have the drive to do it, which I don't.

If you can solve the octahedron, then this is the same thing. The dodec is a little harder. You have to try and ignore the shape and solve like a rubik's cube, but you have to take centres into account this time, and polarity errors caused by the "edges".

Doug,
It was an auction held on Nicks personal website. It was, I believe, published on John Rausch's puzzle world site and Cleverwood's site but in very few other places.
