Post subject: Rubik's Revenge - How to keep it together?Posted: Sun Jun 18, 2006 10:03 am

I have a Revenge that I've had since I was a kid (around 1982 or so).

Anyway, I couldn't seem to keep it from crumbling when I was solving it, so I ordered a new one. The new one is even worse than the the old one. Any pointers on how to keep them from popping apart?

I'm not even really speed-solving so to speak (6 minutes is my best on this thing). I'd imagine that I could do better if it didn't pop apart so easily.

You just got unlucky with it.
I have 2 4x4s and one of them pops really easy, (even when I am not turning it fast and every row lined up, and it still pops)
and recently I opened my second and that is pretty much perfect. The same goes with any cube...

On 4's, usually the reason an edge piece pops is b/c you were truning a slice when the tips of your fingers were on just the edge piece (which consiquently popped). Try only touching the 4 center pieces when making deep cuts. My cubing 4x4 is very loose, and gives me good times because of it, but stays together b/c I have practiced turning it smoothly and accurately. Also try and use as many fingers in different places as possible, and only wrist turns, unless you are confident that the layer is aligned perfectly and preasure is equal.
