I haven't posted here for a long time, but today was a happy day for me. :) I don't believe I have received a nicer collection of puzzles in a single package before:

Very very cool. I can only read the note at the bottom of the typed letter were he states a friend translated the hand written letter into Russian. What language is the hand written letter? It appears Peter knows at least 2 languages so its probably a safe bet that he isn't an American. Yes, I'm an American so I hope I can get away with saying that. If you want us to know what it says can you translate it into English?

How did you find Peter or did he find you? Is he still active in the puzzle community, say attending IPPs? I'd love to meet him someday.

Again a very cool and treasured item you have there. Congratulations.

Carl

buy his a puzzle is not difficult ... before he sold his cube with the signature on Ebay (there is a collection of Philip) .
You can find Peter on facebook. Now he does not left cubes , so I had to buy one for him ...
it is a very friendly person, if you'll like to chat with him ;)

He lives in Germany and speaks English and German. I guess he - Hungarian man.
He wrote two letters : 1) the right - in German, and 2) on the Russian (it's translated his friend)

I do not know whether he is now engaged in puzzles, but he loved my invention ( especially - Micro 4 * 4 cube)
I have a few photographs of him with DCD2009

I have met with him 2 times at the German Cube days (I don't remember what years).
I also has a signed cube from him, but not with a nice letter like Grigr.

I can also say, what Grigr said: He is a nice friendly guy.

This is probably rare (I don't know how many Tony made), but I just got my Locked Blocks. Actually, I got it Monday, but it was Veterans Day Monday, and yesterday the mail didn't come until after 9 pm, so I had the chance to open it today after school. When I opened it, I didn't know how to take the two main parts apart, so I spent about 30 seconds trying to figure it out. The pieces themselves feel like factory-made pieces, and the turning is great. This puzzle does have overhang bandaging, which will make it harder to solve, and the block that turns before separation is very hard to scramble due to lots of it. Anyways, here are the pics:
Please note that the pictures are upside-down. I really hate that it happens, but it does.
P.S. This is the perfect 100th post!

WOW!!! Thanks for that as well. I just read it and really enjoyed it. The part where he states:
Quote:
The masses of computer programs that I have written in my live all have lost their value and importance. The 4x4x4 cube is my only achievement that most probably will survive me.
I found very touching. The work I do to make a living pays the bills and supports my family but I often wonder if anything I do has lasting consequence outside of simply making ends meet. Its that that has fueled my desire to design. I can make (oh don't get me started) something that I can hold in my hands and show my kids and someday even their kids. The desire to make something that "will survive me" is something I suspect most designers have in common.

So have we finally gotten the multicoloured Dino Star? I assume it was the one once posted on this site?

I'm referencing this thread: http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=15092&hilit=Dino+Star

I assume this is the one in the picture, but I can easily be mistaken. But Jason, do we know how many colours of Dino Stars exist? The museum shows a few, then it shows the one in the thread I referenced, which appears to have raised "edges" with little tabs on it. Is that a KO Dino Star, or is it an early production, or something else?

Great finds though. I'm trying to think of a price range that the puzzles together would be around

OK, I just updated the "other" dino star thread confirming it IS something different. If anyone has one to sell, let me know.
http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopi ... 28#p309828

Also, I updated this thread to show 7 of the 8 colors I know of. I'm still missing the 4 color dino star:
http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopi ... 29#p309829

If anyone has a 4 color dino star for sale, please let me know.

Here are a few of my recent find - it seems like this thread is becoming cluttered with Arancia Meccanica's - are we sure they are rare or have they been ko'ed by someone

Does anyone know what the other two puzzles are in the second picture? One seems to be made by the makers of the Logi-Vip ball, it looks like you have to twist the circles until the two bars go though them but I haven't figured it out yet so I don't know what happens! The other is a sort of 3x3 but only two axis turn, it seems to come apart into unifix cubes but the tiles bandage it from coming apart completely - I've never seen either of these two puzzles before and just wondering if anyone knows anything about them? (I am not very interested in either)

Also an extra note re the unknown variant space massager type puzzle on the previous page: I received this email from the previous owner
"I know nothing about this puzzle. My father get it from a wife, her man works in a Toy company. Now he is dead. He was from Hungary. Thats all what i know.
Best regards and a lot of Fun with the puzzle"

So possibly of Hungarian origin?

You are correct: the object of the "Logi, the magic disk" is to put both bars all the way trough all disks. I bought mine in Switserland in 1984 and the solution is unique. It's a pain to solve tough, the tips of the bars are slightly smaller so they'll always fit: to try the next move you have to pull them out a bit to allow the last disk to move. My copy is made in Austria.

Hi Maarten - my puzzle was made in Austria too and I can see how it would be frustrating to solve - Thanks for the additional information!

@Andreas - I will take more pictures next week and send them to you as I am finding it very hard to find time during daylight hours to take pictures this week.

I remember this puzzle. I obtained it in Japan (can you imagine?) about 5 years ago not knowing what it was as I never saw it before. After mixing it up I got frustrated as this is absolutely not the type of puzzle I have the patience to solve. Not my type. And so I quickly passed it at cost to - if I remember correctly - Jaap.

Can you compare it with the Moldavian Pyramid?
What is its size?
Is there a tile with price tag in embossed letters?

This puzzle is build in Kharkov in the Ukraine. size is the same as in all Moldovan pyraminx.
on it there are no any letters or logos. but there is a price on the package = 4 rubles.
turning is excellent, edge size = 8cm, no stickers, only tiles

I am very happy to find it. Once I did, I swore it would be mine.

HAND

Congratulations on getting a Magic Dodecahedron.
I bought an original direct from Christoph Bandelow in the mid eighties.
I can assure you that it is far, far superior to any Megaminx/Dodechedron that has followed since.
It has been solved many, many times over the years and is still in excellent condition - quality, stickers, rotating etc. etc..
I'm sure that any other owners of the original out there will say the same.

You will not be disappointed.

Happy Dodecahedron-ing

Anthony

This. I have one as well and it even outperforms my top speed minxes by a huge factor. No pops, lockups, catching, or peeling of the stickers. It's super smooth and by far the most stable Megaminx I've ever owned. And it cuts 36 degrees for crying out loud!

...and it makes the same noise as the original Rubik's cubes :-)
It is my second best favourite puzzle to play with.

This is quite the endorsement!
:)

I was more interested in having a piece of history, but now I will definitely use it for some solving.

Is it particularly different in quality from the Hungarian Supernova? I was under the impression that the two puzzles were the same thing. I have one of the newer run of those and the turning is amazingly flawless. :)

I just received this from an eBay auction, making up my third unique city produced Russian cube.
This one is from the Aksai Rostov region, and is pretty cool as one face has metallic stickers.
