I'm almost positive this is an MF8 puzzle? I say this because mf8-china is the url at the bottom and this is super related to their Sun Cubes that were announced. I could be wrong though

It is the Dayan wheel of wisdom!! So excited :) It looks like a hardcore version of the smaz time machine!

I thought I would prefere the Gem VI because it has a more natural look but I'm not sure anymore

This is a Dayan puzzle called "Wheel of Wisdom". Designed by Bao DaQing. Yeah it seems like the SunCube of mf8, and somehow seems like Time Machine of Smaz too. Because actually they're all good friend & share some thoughts sometimes.

Below the photo you'll see the web address of mf8, it's because the pic was posted on mf8-forum. So the forum system generated the message under the pic, just a a watermark.

It's up on HKNowStore for preorder for $64 [ouch!]. I'm gonna definitely need to wait and see how this puzzle is different from the Sun Cube I before I purchase either.

$64 for this puzzle is VERY reasonable.

I was just earlier telling someone that if I would have to choose between this one and the new 10x10 I wouldn't even have to think about it and pick this. This was thinking that it would cost just as much.. and considering the price of Smaz's time machine, this one is reasonably priced.

What are the dimensions of this puzzle? Is it about the same size as the Time Machine? I just want to know before it comes in a giant package at my door.

Wow, so many wonderful new puzzles. I preorderd the Wheel of Wisdom after hesitating on the price for about one minute. I'd rather pay a bit more for a high-quality puzzle anyway and I think Dayan and especially MF8 are on a roll with these complex puzzles. The stickering will be interesting!

BTW, it says "Dayan" on HKNowStore.

Any word on what the internal mechanism of this puzzle is like? If I had to guess, I'd think it'd be similar to a Zhanchi with some extensions for the outer circular faces. If this is based on any of the DaYan 3x3x3 designs it will certainly turn brilliantly.

I think it has a lot of differences, but I don't have the intuition to see exactly what it will alter. For one, face turns now only affect one face. And there are also four corners added that you wouldn't have on the sun cube on the cubic portions.

I think that this puzzle looks very interesting, also somewhat difficult (those little triangle pieces look especially tricky), but I think that $64 is a bit too much. I wonder why it's so expensive? :| :?

I wonder what this puzzle would look like shape-modded into a truncated cube. Since the faces would be octagons they would have 8-fold rotational symmetry. I wonder if it would shapeshift? :?:

Smaz designed the Time Machine. Oscar designed Khaled's Time Machine. I'm sure both Oscar and Dayan checked with Smaz.

I think it would. Seeing as the edges and corner-edges (I just made this word up, I don't know what you would call them) are currently symmetrical, cutting into the edges and giving the corner-edges a bigger width would change that ratio. Unless you mean extending the puzzle's babyfaces into a truncated cube?

You'd introduce over hang bandaging unless you make the "baby" faces smaller squares. Though maybe you want the over hang bandaging... it may add a new challenge.

I was thinking smaller squares. I was also thinking truncating the circles to be flush with the faces of the cube; it would solve the same as the one shown here.

It's the Dayan Gem VI that's currently missing from the series :)

The Dayan Gem VI has more pieces (rombic edge pieces) and it might looke better, I will wait and than decide which one I buy.

So is the Dayan Gem VI just a shape transformation of the Wheel of Wisdom? The only difference I see other than shape is the rhombus pieces. If this is true, then this could explain why Dayan waited to release the 6th Gem after the others. Maybe they wanted the Wheel of Wisdom to be released first.

The rhombus pieces look really easy to solve if you only use shallow turns. Also, there are pieces on the Wheel of Wisdom that are identical. Not the small triangles or the circle "corners" - the other pieces, dunno what to call them. On the Dayan Gem VI, these pieces are distinguishable since they have two stickers instead of one. So you have extra pieces [even if they are easy] and more distinguishable pieces. So I'd say the Dayan Gem VI is definitely the more difficult of the two!

That pretty much seals it for me. I'm buying the Gem VI over the Wheel of Wisdom.

I wonder how they sticker the Dayan Gem VI. I doubt that they will use 30 colours. I thought of a sticker config using only 14 stickers (see picture) but it might get optimized by mixing them up a bit more. Are there already some more information ?

edit: The Colours are only a help to distinguish the different edges, only the numbers indicate stickers. There are two colours on each edge, so for example the top/front edge has colour 1 and colour 2.
The stickers of the 6 octagonal Faces would be the numbers 9-14 but they are not so important in the sketch, only the pentagonal faces.

That picture confuses me. I see 3 colors in it; 12 lines which match the edges of a cube; and three of each of these numbers 12, 34, 56, & 78. Not only do I not see how you get 14 colors but I really don't understand what I'm looking at. Please explain.

Thanks,
Carl

I've found the puzzle that make me think this shape was familiar. It's Shim's Skyglobe. It isn't quite the same shape but I'd say its closely related.

There is now a stickerless version on sale, the only difference I can see solving-wise is that the very small portion of the 3x3x3 edge is colored, which makes the solve just about 10-50 seconds longer depending on your 3x3x3 solving method. Still, it's nice to see this for those of you who collect stickerless puzzles. I won't be getting one because of its high price, but some of you might be interested in it.

Has anyone received one yet?

I get paid on Friday and will be ordering the Stickerless version.

I didn't like the look of this puzzle until I saw the stickerless version and it just looks so much neater.

But I would love to see this Scrambled.

Anyone else going to order the Stickerless version?

I agree that the stickerless one looks much nicer, but the visible edges seem like they would make it a lot more difficult. I am going to get the stickered white version. However, I might get the stickerless one later once I can solve the stickered one. :D

I think the difficulty increase would be negligible. Instead of solving the corners first like a 2x2 (with centers), just solve the inner 3x3 first.

Sorry I am a bit lost. What am I not seeing? What is visible on the stickerless version that isn't on the stickered?

Can someone post comparison pictures?
