Hi,

I am trying to solve the 5x5x5 wall cube. I'd like to solve the edges first because I think I have the algorithms to solve the rest of the cube without messing them. I was looking for an algorithm to swap two edges of the kind marked with the circle in the following image (I changed the colours of the cube for clarity):

Can anyone help me?

Hi Marcom,

I solved it a very long time ago. From memory it was very similar to the Wall444, I think the additional new elements were only 333 related attributes. My question, before I get the puzzle out and make a solve to remind myself, is: Have you solved the Wall444 first? And have you explored the Wall444 thread?

Spoiler 1: [If you hold it so the green face (in your picture) is on U.. you can see the 333 `tower` type puzzle. The piece you've highlighted can be exchanged around `with the corner pieces` and tower sequences.]

Spoiler 2: [Then, with the red face on top, you can move the corners independently.]

Cheers,
Burgo.

Hi Burgo,

Thanks for your reply. I like to solve the 4 wall cube this way: solve white and yellow, solve edges swapping them , solve blue and green centers, solve corners.

I'd like to solve the 5 version using the same steps but the algorithm to swap edges doesn't work because the edges are twisted too.

Cuould you show me an example? I never solved tower puzzles and the algorithms I found don't work here.

Here is the link to the Wall444 solving thread, to help people who might not have seen it:

Sorry, I don't know what you mean `twisted`? Can you provide a photo? Providing the `algorithm that doesn't work` would help too :) .

Tower 3cycles like: (R2 U R2 U' R2) U' D (R2 U' R2 U R2) U D'

Your tower algorithm doesn't work here

Here's some pictures to illustrate how to use my sequence:

You're sequence is working, it's just scrambling the 333 Tower Edges. Mine will mess them up too, but mine will isolate it to the LL.

You can use (R2 U)x2 (R2 U2)x2 (R2 U R2 U' R2) or (R2 U2)x3 to fix edges. They're not pure either, you have to account for things (like the E slice) to make progress.

If you want a more pure sequence you could use: (R2 U R2 U' R2) D (R2 U R2 U' R2) D' or some other variant.
