I have recently changed my computer to a Windows 8 one. However the version of Solidworks that my school has is 2012, not compatible with windows 8.

Has anyone had experience running Solidworks with Compatibility mode?

Actually, no (in my case). I use Windows 8 and it works just fine. And I'm using the 2012 edition, which I had read up on about compatibility. I assume it may be because I'm using 32 bit, as from the parts I've read, people with 64 bit machines appear more than 32 bit when they post their specs. (May not be true, but that's only from what I've seen people post when this compatibility problem shows up)

Another thing that may be of use to others, is that my Laptop is actually 64 bit but due to some malfunctions I had to get Windows 8, instead of 7. But I missed the part that said 32 bit when I bought the Windows 8 installation disk.

I would try installing it as administrator, and when it is done, try opening it with Windows 7 compatibility. May not help, but it can't hurt to try right?

I found that people had success with running 2012 on windows 8.

Right clicking on the file gives compatibility mode. But how to I use it if it is from a disk?

I'm not too sure. But I bet there is a way.
