At least it keeps you from doing those corner algorithms so many times.

Talk about pointlessly easy.

Anyway I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say this is a KO.

Well it seemed to be linked with [removed], if that's any help.

Hmm, it looks as though the picture on [removed] is the same one that juanan posted in his thread. Maybe he collaborated with them on this

The original Helicopter design was invented in parallel by Okamoto and Adam Cowan, and Jason Smith worked with Adam to mass produce his design.
This was sadly pirated, and the non-Jason Smith version is considered KO.

As I have not heard from Jason that he has made a corner-less version, I have to assume this is based on the same KO base, and is therefore KO itself.

So no manufacturer names or links, please.

Dave :)

Actually, I am not fully understand why the shape-mod becomes KO as there are hundreds of 3x3 shape-mod puzzles in the market. Hope that we shall have a clear definition on this topic.
Anyway, I have just removed the puzzles. Thanks.

The patent for the Rubik's cube ran out a while ago so anyone is free to do as they please in creating them. I do not know for sure, but I would assume Jason/Adam/Okamoto have a patent on the helicopter cube.

None of them do, but this forum does not require a patent for what we consider to be the rights of the designers.

In this case Jason and Adam spent a lot of time and money to get their very high quality mass production version to market and, sadly, it was knocked off after a time which ate into and diminished their market. This was costly for them and this forum doesn't want to further those who's actions hurt our friends.

So while legally no patents have been infringed, our forum will not be part of actions that harm those who have given us great gifts.

A shape mode from a KO base doesn't change the fact that the companies profiting from these puzzles have done so at the expense of those who brought us this design and, as it happens, the concept of jumbling.

I would hope that in the future there is more collaboration rather than outright copying. I have not given up hope that this is possible, but it requires continued attempts at communication. But until such time as parties can work together on projects, this forum will focus on celebrating the designers, not just the latest company to bring copied puzzles cheaply to market.

Dave

Thanks for your explanations.
Yes, cutting the corner is not significant enough to be a new puzzle which I had over-looked on this puzzle, I apologized.
And, I do appreciate the works of Jason and Adam on helicopter puzzle. :)
