Hey all

After recovering from my recent "I'm deleting my youtube channel, blog, and giving up twisty puzzles forever" slump ( ), I'm starting a thread to let people know about my new blog posts and videos. Sort of like Gabriel's thread, but more aimed at tutorials and solve videos (but also unboxings, reviews, rants)

And today's video is about something I swore I'd never do: get onto Facebook  I'd be incredibly grateful if anyone interested might check out the video

http://youtu.be/-qdyfCTbGa8 [Now unlisted]

and also wander over to have a look at my facebook page and click that Like button. It's at http://www.facebook.com/thetwistypuzzler. The blogger link is in my signature. I'm really looking forward to the new spate of puzzles coming our way!

By the way, if I'd been doing this update earlier, I would have mentioned my void cube tutorial which avoids a parity fix and of course my Eitan's Star tutorial.

Thanks :)

I am so so glad you have revitalised everything! Your site and Youtube channel is one of the few I consider absolutely essential. I try to solve everything myself but always watch you for hints and better ways. Keep up the great work!

Absolutely! Puzzlers never give up - we just find better ways to do things. :D

Ah, thanks Eitan! That feels nice knowing I helped the designer of a puzzle solve it.

Today's update is a tutorial of a very old puzzle, which I only just got. It's the Alexander's Star. I also spend a minute or two showing how to make it turn *much* better than it used to.

Alexander's Star tutorial!

Actually you already have an Alexander's Star tutorial if you consider it an edges-only megaminx; the techniques in your megaminx videos should be all you need to solve the Alexander's Star. But a good tutorial for the Alexander's Star by itself a is a lot of fun, thanks!!!

I really like the new style of the Alexander's Star video. I like the short introduction, and the editing on the outtro. Also, that was a very nice explanation of what you were doing, as always.

Sure. But the Alexander's Star can be tricky to see what's going on with it, and also, sometimes I make tutorials as a result of viewer requests

Great! Thankyou! I spent a lot of time on those things so I was hoping people would appreciate it :)

OK. Today's update is an unboxing and review of the new Dayan Gem VII. See me fumble with jumbling, and see me (amazingly) conclude (on live video) that 2 faces plus another face makes 3 faces.

Whaaat ???
And all the puzzles in my todo list and your videos that for sure i'll watch sooner or later?
You are doing a great work and your channel is one of the most complete resource for solving on internet! Don't give up.

I solved bauhinia dodec thanks to your videos and even if I adopted just one alg for Eitan's star I really enjoyed the story. Also those videos are on the "to watch" list.
Actually you are putting out videos more quickly than I'm able to follow

Ok, I will try to remember to click more often the "I like" button then.

Bye :D

Perhaps you've noticed but Sune is just a commutator (your beloved edge-piece-series) nested in a 2-move conjugate.

The inner commutator (edge-piece-series) performs a 3-cycle of edges and a 2-2 swap of corners. Sune just uses two setup moves to put all of these effects into a single layer.

You also mention that Sune and then Mirror-Sune twists two corners pure. I call this trick "sequence stacking" and it's a powerful trick for twisting pieces or other interesting effects on some puzzles.

I would say that is your niche.

Most people upload videos and know so much about the cube before they have got it that it is a bit pointless unboxing it, i dont want that. i want real first impressions.

Thats where you come in.

I want to add a comment to the Dayan Gem VII.
Like discussed the square faces are very hard to turn.
I tried to lube the whole cube and adjusted the screws. Almost no effect!
If I loose the screws very much the square faces turning a little bit easier, but the cube nearly falls apart.
The Dayan Gem VII is an interesting cube but the handling is terrible. In my eyes there are deficits in its construction.
I guess I put it in the shelf and dont touch it anymore :-(

How long will that be open? I'm pretty sure you'll be doing a favorite puzzles contest so I could start early but I am quite constricted on how often I can record

Probably a week. Don't worry: it'll deliberately be restricted to a very short video. :)
