Hello! Today I recieved 2 orb-it puzzles: one has a standard body colour but the second one has a golden body. The red and yellow beads are the same color on both but the blue and green have a very different shade.
In the description of the puzzle didn't say anyting about the golden one, and in the museum there are not pictures of it.

Here are some pictures!

I'm not entirely convinced that there really are any that were originally golden. Many that were silver have yellowed through age and sunlight to become golden.

On mine, one pole is a bit more discoloured than the other, but this is only really noticeable if you solve it with one half reversed, as shown in the photo below.

I think your very very silver one is the more unusual of the two.

That's interesting, I wonder if putting one under a UV lamp or something similar would cause the color change. Or maybe putting it in a pure oxygen environment (depending on what's potentially causing the color change)

Yes, this is my opinion as well that the golden color appeared due to sunlight/environment/age.

I also own two orbs, one silver-ish and one golden-ish. The difference isn't as pronounced as yours but kind of similar. There's also variability in the shading across the plastic on the same orb. I think they both started silver and one kind of lost its color due to light exposure over the past 30 years, or there was poor quality control on the initial batch of plastic. You have two ends of the spectrum of the same item.

One of my orbs has a different color bead scheme than the other, so I think there was variability in the way the beads were inserted as well.
