I went through a period of 2 or 3 days of being obsessed with edge turning cubes; little chop, curvy copter II. You name it! That obsession has died down, but I've now been constantly thinking about a new set, with twice as many sides... I am of course referring to the dodecahedron, deep cut variety. It started with me playing with a pyraminx crystal I had received for Christmas, and I had suddenly enjoyed solving it, a lot! I took out a couple edges and discovered a megaminx underneath! I was unaware this used a shell mechanism and it really fascinated me. Know I keep looking at Drew's Master Brilic, Pentultimates and all sorts. I am scared, my money might vanish! . I do hope this obsession vanishes like the edge turning cubes, but this has lasted a lot longer .

So, do you ever get a sudden obsession with a specific type of puzzle and did you escape the obsession harm-free?

Tuttminx - I own three. Cuboids - this madness ended at the announcement of the 5x7x9 when I was confronted by the cold reality of my fiscal situation - I'm not rich. . Icosahedrons and their cubic transformations are still at the top of my list. This phase could end when I get past the denial stage and embrace the fact that I'm not be quite smart enough to play with icosahedrons. The Mixup Plus series - my first steps into developing my own solutions and video tutorials and still satisfying. WitEden holds the cards here. If they make 5x5 or 6x6 Mixup puzzles, I'll be all over them. Big 'minx puzzles - I'm in good company as the 11,000 views of my 8 hour Petaminx tutorial will attest. I think people like big, easy puzzles. If someone puts an Examinx for sale and I can afford it, I will buy it (and make a video). Big cubic puzzles - this phase has never ended and I just placed an order for yet another big cubic puzzle this weekend. Sometimes I just want to solve a puzzle without thinking profound thoughts.

As for escaping harm-free... there was a close-call last year when my spouse asked "just how many of these
puzzles do WE own?" but I dodged that one... with a non-committal and mathematically questionable answer "a few..." and pointing out that as far as vices go, twisty puzzles are pretty innocuous.

Well, mine started in 1978 when I got my Rubik's cube from David Singmaster ...

I still have an obsession with circle cubes...

I find myself drifting between gears, circles, hybrids... Except I can't buy any of them.

I started on puzzles about 3 years ago and have spent an absolute fortune! In fact it is so much that I daren't tell my wife!

I now have about 575 puzzles (not all twisty), a blog that has been going 2 years and no more space in my study! So you asked "did you escape the obsession harm free?"
The answer is Hell no! There is no escape and my finances are irreparably harmed!

But I'm happy sitting in the corner here drooling over my latest acquisition - a beautiful hand made 18 piece burr made from Bubinga and Tulipwood. It is called Supernova and is the current world record holder - requiring 160 moves to remove just the first piece!

At the moment I am completely obsessed by the Blue Revomaze.....it's time I find the solution, it's getting very bad for my health.

Pyraminx. I've been completely obsessed with speedsolving it for more than a year now. It's awesome because the fastest method is just to solve intuitively in as few moves as possible. (I average 13-14 moves per solve excluding tips.)
