I have always solved certain cubes in just one method. For example: the 3x3x3, Friedrich. This can get boring sometimes because i never find anything new, just the plain old put this cuby here, put that one there etc... :( I'm looking for some different ways to solve cubes. So out of any cube, what is your favorite way to solve it. It can be using any method, whether it being one you made or one that is commonly known. :D

A quick way to get more into cubing is to get the 4x4x6 cuboid. Then try and solve it and if you can't there is a good tutorial out there by crazybadcuber.

This cuboid will teach you a bunch of new tactics alright :)




Also.. this might seem simple: scramble that 3x3 using only 180 degree turns. And then solve it that way as well. Quite the challenge ;)

Hello,

I found very fun and different from other methods the Human Thistlethwaite Algorithm, link here:

Page has no images and at first it seems difficult to follow. But when you try it you will find it extremely simple and easy to memorize. At the end just few short sequences that can be easily understood.
It's completely different than block building methods, layer by layer, or corner first methods, it works by putting the cube into stricter subgroups at every iteration.

Well, at least this is my opinion :).

For fun I solve the cube in a few different methods:

1.) Domino
First get the cube into a domino state. Pick a top and bottom (I choose white/yellow) and get all edges and corners facing white/yellow up or down. Then flip the center edges for parity (solved or opposite color). Then solve like a domino. You will likely have one simple permutation on the center row at the end.

2.) Solve like a complex 2x2x2
Solve a 2x2x2 block, then solve the rest of the cube without breaking that block

3.) Pochman 'T' perm blindfold
Solve with just the 'T' permutation and setup moves. I do edges first, then corners.

Thanks for the suggestion on Human Thistlethwaite!

I have had fun figuring that one out over the last few days.

Also, I didn't really like how he breaks G2 when forming the corners into G3, so I looked for a different way to do that. So far, I think it's easiest to see the corner situation by just solving them :lol: The bottom layer corners are pretty easy to do, and then in the top layer, a 3-cycle that uses only G2 moves is:

(F2 D R2 D' F2) y' (F2 D' L2 D F2)

It is pretty intuitive. The first 5 moves are simply a quick way to swap two corners in the U layer. The side effect is that two corners on the FL edge get swapped too. The second half is just the mirror of the 5-move sequence, applied so that it cancels out the side-effect. The result is a 3-cycle.

Without the cube rotation, the sequence is: (F2 D R2 D' F2) (L2 D' B2 D L2)

I'm glad that you liked it.
I also enjoyed it.
And like you I also wanted a way to avoid breaking subgroups already formed on the previous step!
Thank you for your sequence to stay in G2 for corners, i will add it to my notes.
To achieve the same result I used a much longer sequence taken from domino cuboids which is:
R2 U R2 U' R2 U' D R2 U' R2 U R2 (D)
and swaps corners UFR<->URB with G2 moves.

I also found some sequences for all other subgroups if you are interested, but those can be long and I honestly figured them out just for completeness (because I found very fun the concept that once you are in a subgroup you are restricted to do such moves, like at the beginning of the algorithm).
When I do the algorithm is usually prefer to use the shortcuts proposed by "Ryan Heise".
