What is this puzzle based off of? Or is it unique?

I am having the hardest time figuring this out. My guess is that it's based off of a pyraminx.

Looks great! The shape and cuts make the puzzle very visually confusing at first. Also, compared to the Curvyminx, every piece here is unique for a different solving experience. Great job!

I'm having a very hard time seeing a pyraminx. I think this is unique. I'll look into it further.

Can this jumble to your knowledge? During the video it looked like it could in a vertex turn.

Another puzzle in shape of the Truncated Triakis Tetrahedron. This alone makes the puzzle beautiful.
The two puzzles are quite similar but are not totally equivalent.
HC2[F3 C4 E3 X9/2][F3] is the Curvyminx
HC2[F3 C1/2 C4/2 E3 X9/2][F3 C1/2] is the new puzzles

As new name I suggest:
Offset Hexagons
Sixteen Faces
Four Halved Hexagons
Twelve Useless Pentagons
TTTCH = Truncated Triakis Tetrahedron with the axis system of a Cornerturning Hexahedron

Even if you don't use them they might inspire you.

I believe this is a modification of the curvyminx but I thought it was unique when I made it! the hexagons correspond to the small faces of the curvyminx while the pentagon corners correspond to the large faces of the curvyminx. Although the mechanism is a bit simpler if I am not mistaken. The center pieces would actually go the center of the faces of the pyraminx not the corners. Also, there is no jumbling on this puzzle. Thanks for the responses everyone!

I don't know your notation here, but I suspect we are saying the same thing. When I say "functionally equivalent" I am referring to a completely un-stickered puzzle, which means I am excluding differences like which pieces have unique orientations and which pieces have duplicates.


It's interesting how people can often converge on the "same" idea coming from completely different starting points!

I made an embarassing mistake and DKwan is correct.
I double checked the signature for the new puzzle but didn't recheck the Curvyminx. With it I made an error two years ago.

I've noticed this before myself. I think its due to the fact there are a finite number of symmetries but there are nearly an infinite number of puzzle ideas. So its actually quite easy to end up with things that are very similiar totally by surprise.

This is a very interesting puzzle. You did a GREAT job of hiding a (as Andreas would say) Cornerturning Hexahedron in there. I saw this shortly after this was posted yesterday and I must confess I had no idea what I was looking at. Even the video really confused me.
