Hi Twisty Puzzles fans,

Cheese Block is a 14-segment version of the 3-layer 6-segment Cheese Cake puzzle and the 10-segment Prisminx Crystal by Gregoire Pfennig. The mechanism is a straightforward 3-shells mechanism, as explained by Jared McComb at the Twisty Puzzles Forum, augmented by top- and bottom-layer sliders.

To my happy surprise, the first prototype worked perfectly. I had not expected this, because of the large number of shells and their thin size. The points pass each other well in the middle without any hooking. Also the top and bottom layers turn smoothly after flattening them out. By the way, is this puzzle now the (frivolous and unofficial) world record for twisty-puzzle-with-most-points-coming-together?

Looks like it works wonderfully! I'd like to see a 12-segment prism that works that well.

This is like a cuboid version of a fully unbandaged square-2, if I am correct, no?

No, the Unbandaged Square-2 has 12 triangles on the base faces. This one has 14.

No, the Unbandaged Square-2 has 12 triangles on the base faces. This one has 14.

Not really. I don't think there'd be a way to make or even classify what a cuboid version of a cheese puzzle would be. The shape doesn't have anything to do with it.
Edit: Maybe with layers, but not segments.

Oskar, your work is incredible as usual. What impresses me the most is that for the most part (at least what I've seen) you can get the concept to work on the first try. Often times it will even work flawlessly.

I am afraid the clear appearance doesn't do the complexity of the mechanism any justice.

Funny how noone's answered the question about the number of shells with six axes. Because six is an even number, you have to actually have both opposite umbrellas in the core, so there's 12 of them instead of 5 or 7 in the other two mentioned, so it wouldn't surprise me if the number of shells needed is 4 or more.
