Hello everyone, i've got a new puzzle to share with you all; the Gear Tetra-Morphinx.

The Gear Tetra-Morphinx is a shape transformation of the mass produced Gear Mastermorphinx, which was inspired by the Tetraminx Puzzle. The shape of the puzzle was achieved by truncating the points of the pyramid shaped puzzle, which created four additional faces and resulted in a newly shaped puzzle with a total of eight faces.

I devised a new type of colour scheme for the puzzle, so as to bring more emphasis to the “geared” element of the puzzle. The final colour scheme design was developed with the help of members of this forum, to whom I asked for advice and they shared their ideas.

Twelve colours were used in total, three per face, with the colours of a large face being mirrored on the opposite, smaller face. Each face has a spectrum of similar colours of differing tones. All stickers were cut by hand from sheets of adhesive vinyl. For the gear shaped stickers I created “master templates” that could be traced around for accuracy.

As mentioned above, the shape was achived via truncations, which were done using a Dremel tool. Any hollow portions were filled with epoxy sculpt and sanded smooth. The puzzle was then given a spray painted Matt Black finish.

The turning and functionality of the puzzle remain identical to that of the Gear Mastermorphinx on which it is based. The solving challenge also remains identical, however the new colour scheme makes for an intesting change.

View the full page for this puzzle on my website.

Thanks for looking,
Ryan

Oh gosh.
This is gorgeous.
It just goes to show how much stickers can add to a puzzle.

Very nice! Great job on the stickering. It's hard to believe that was done by hand.

Admittedly the stickering does look better in the photos than it does in real life. Inspect a little closer and you can tell they are hand cut. But i'm pleased with the results, especially the gear stickers which were cut with nail scissors! :P
