Hey Everyone,

I'm sorry lately I've been slow on puzzles, and the ones coming out are mostly the ones Claus asked me to design for him, but here's an affordable Master Pentultimate I wanted to make available for everyone.

Thanks to brandon for polishing the 5 first copies, he did an amazing job, and the spinning is truly mass-produced like !!

Watch the video here

You can buy the DIY on shapeways here if you want :)

As always, since i'm starting school again soon, I will not offer assembled and stickered puzzles. The stickering takes about 2h, 10 min per face with glue under each sticker, and the assembly about 1h30 the first time.

Size: 30mm from two faces (smaller in volume than a mini 3x3) and about 13mm edge and has 185 pieces.

Here are some pictures for you :) Enjoy !

Greg

P.S: It requires 12 M1x5 screws

I'm glad to see this posted :D

Based on my turning of one, I think these things turn well enough to actually be solvable (comfortably).

Thanks Oliver, that's great !! :)

As for a micro Pentultimate, I will be making more micros but I won't say which, only that they are all shelled.

Would this be a good puzzle to order in WSFP? I wouldn't mind paying 4 extra dollars if it was a better puzzle. I know yours are tumbled, do you think Shapeways would do a good job as well?

Callum

I think this won't work. I'm pretty sure Shapeways uses ceramic media which looks a bit like rabbit food. The pieces are so small on this puzzle that they are smaller than the polishing media itself. It would be like trying to polish an apple with a bucket of basketballs. Also, Shapeways will probably lose a piece or two if they try to polish it. You can try but getting a print back with 1 or 2 missing pieces is no fun.

Because the pieces are so small I had a hard time tumbling them too. They just wouldn't wear down much at all. I had to tumble them for much longer and they still didn't wear as much as I wanted. Also, they were about the same size as the porcelain spheres which made the spheres less effective at getting them smooth and reflective.

Finally, I tumbled these puzzles with other puzzles too which was a big mistake. The pieces are so small they were able to wedge themselves inside of the pieces of other puzzles. I spent hours with tweezers and an air compressor picking / blasting them out of other pieces. If I were to tumble them again I'd want to do a big batch (maybe 10-20 at once) all in one tumbler. Unlike other puzzles these don't need to be babysat. I'd just turn it on and let it run for a month.

I have uploaded the sticker set to my shop

Unfortunately my plotter is unavailable to cut this small stickers.
My friend will cut the stickers with a much more professional plotter. But it will take some weeks. (max 2)

Now the stickers are only available for pre-order.

UPDATE: I have no more assembled puzzles to sell, BUT one of the five was missing pieces, so IF you order from shapeways are are missing pieces, I have some extra black polished pieces of each type, so you just have to contact me in case of need.

Also, I'm really shocked how so many pieces can fill up such a small space  :

I have just received my Micro Master Pentultimate, and I felt extremely compelled to say that it is one of the best investments I have made. It is one of the best, if not the very best, turning Shapeways puzzles that I own. I have had no issues with stability or popping, which is amazing for how many pieces are in this thing (and how small each of those pieces is). Thank you very much Greg, this is an excellent puzzle.

This is without a doubt the coolest mini puzzle I've ever seen. Even if they WERE mass produced, you wouldn't be able to find a Master Pentultimate at that price.

Fantastic work, Greg! :)

Please could you give a link to the exact type of screws. I continue to have huge problems finding specific screws mentioned like this. There are countless variations and Google searches never seem to find the right ones.

Yeah this is correct. I bought 1000 from this guy. I counted out 100 of them and then based on weight extrapolated that I actually got about 750 +/- 20 (there is a surprising amount of variance in mass between each screw). I know Greg has had the opposite experience where he gets more than 100 in an order.

The screw holes on the ball core for Greg's Micro Master Pentultimate are below Shapeway's cylindrical hole resolution so they won't be fully formed. The screws are so small though they do a really good job of "drilling" their own hole as you insert them.

I have ordered 100 pieces here http://www.ebay.com/itm/100pcs-Screw-M1 ... 45fcaf5e07
They ship to Germany.
Tony, if you are not in a hurry, I could forward some to UK.
They should arrive in a week or so in Germany.
I have no idea how reliable this shop is, though.

I don't mind reliability too much but I don't buy from stores which rep points are lower than 97 or something; I pay with Paypal, and I will not hesitate to sign things over to them should I not receive my items ;) That is the advantage of using Paypal.

I was just about to offer the same thing about the forwarding hahaha.

Honestly.. why on earth would one exclude the UK?? :?
