Dayan Megaminx I

Dayan announced his first design of Megaminx on MF8 today, called Dayan Megaminx I.

The internal structure looks very similar to Guhong. He started designing in Aug, 2011, and applied for patent in May, 2012.

There are two series of products: the one with traditional shape, and the one with ridges on the corner pieces (please see the pictures). In each series there are black plastic and color plastic versions. Since Dayan has proven himself to be one of the best speed cube designers, I would believe these Megaminxes should be good.

Dayan said these products will be on market "very soon" without giving a specific date.

They look incredible. The ridges on the corners are a great idea. I've been wanting a new megaminx so I will have to wait till this comes out.

I've been meaning to build an inverted Megaminx for some time to improve the problem of my fingers slipping off the faces on turns.

This seems to be the same general concept, simplified a bit.

Hooray! I've wanted these to exist since the Guhong came out.

The ridges look like a neat idea for speedsolvers but as I'm not one, I'll go for the more "traditional" version.

I will be getting a few of these, mainly one for playing and solving and the other will be built out into a hexanix. This will be fun. I just dont if I want to cut and paste or scultp it out. We shall see,

As I just modded my megaminx into a halfminx, I might get one. I'm just wondering, are the ridges on the corners competition legal?

It's a good question. Someone has asked WCA regulation committee members. They will discuss about it and give us an answer.

From what I know of the rules of the WCA, it should be legal, but that's only me.
