Meffert's Master Pyraminx is designed by Adam G. Cowan and Timur Evbatyrov; Great puzzles the "Master Pyraminx" this beautiful and limited edition puzzle completes the initial three pillow Pyraminx puzzle series.

The injection moulds have just been completed. And after some mould debugging, the Mass Production run will be started in about 10 days to two weeks which will be in a black and white moulded body. The standard design will be with the special German Fluorescent labels.

Freaking FINALLY. Been waiting for years for a mass-produced Master Pyraminx.

How much will it cost? Same price as the Professor Pyraminx, or less?

I hate to say it but I think it is very ugly. I don't like pillowed puzzles but realize that in some instances it is necessary. But this isn’t one of those instances. Hopefully someone else (LanLan, QJ, YJ, etc) will make a proper one. I have no intention of buying one of these.

Good news ;)

I suppose the picture is from the older Adam's prototype and the real puzzle (my version) will be less pillowed.

I'm not a huge fan of pillowing, I'll probably wait for the reviews seeing as what happen with the Gear Pyraminx.

Wow. This is the second time I've thought about a puzzle earlier during the day and then when I visit the forum it's been announced/ posted.

Great news though. Really can't wait to complete my Pyraminx series!

I have to agree that I do not like the pillowed puzzle, and will not be buying one of these too, unless they make a straight edge one... Sorry... Puzzle budget is tight these days!

Hopefully we'll be able to get Timur's higher order pyraminxes someday as well. :D haven't purchased a Twisty Puzzle in about a year and a half, but I will be getting this.

I think this is great. I actually do not have any puzzles that are related in the pyraminx-family - I've been waiting for the production of the master pyraminx. Now, just to buy the set - whether flat or pillowed - just as long as they're uniform.

Adam's original design is a bit too pillowed in my opinion, but as Timur mentioned, his design won't have as much pillowing. Timur's Professor Pyraminx has very subtle pillowing, and is an incredibly beautiful puzzle! I believe the Master Pyraminx will be similar in design.

But of course, for those who want a flat, straight edged puzzle, you can't go wrong with Timur's Shapeways version. Just a bit more expensive though.

It's great that this puzzle is finally here! I will most likely buy one when they become available although I would prefer a non-pillowed one.

Does anyone (Timur?) have a picture of what the actual puzzle will really look like? - the picture posted on the Jade Club page is the same as the one at the top of this thread which would lead me to believe that this is what the final version will look like.

For those complaining that it's pillowed - Meffert probably can't make a flat one because of his previous agreement with Katsuhiko Okamoto being broken off.

I totally forgot about Timur's version on Shapeways... Good advice, and worth saving for. I don't mean to be a complainer, I just really don't prefer pillowed puzzles, unless required by the mech... Just a personal preference I guess!

Nothing wrong with your personal preference. :-) I like the flat edged puzzles better too. But I've found in some cases, that as the puzzles get bigger, the pillowed versions seem easier to hold and work with. I'm also a huge fan of Timur's puzzles and love the way he designs them.

It was about an incident with KO Void Cubes and 7x7s in 2009. Here is the topic. Okamoto's reply is on page 2.

Personally I blame it on poor communication skills...

I have got Timur's original Shapeways version when he made it available in the first place.
I ordered this one in black from the Jade Club.
I like Timur's original, but it is a bit small.
Actually, I like pillowed pyramids, they feel much better in my hands than un-pillowed with sharp edges.

Having played with a print of this, I really recommend it. It's very well designed and turns great. It's a very good size too.

I'm really not a fan of the pillowing. I like the Professor Pyraminx, but pillowing is absolutely necessary for this puzzle. I have a flat Master Pyraminx by Timur, although it is very small. I also much prefer the old proportional pyraminxes to the new pillowed ones, so I am in agreement that a Master Pyraminx with flat proportional faces should be produced. That said, I may have to bite at this one to ensure that I'll be able to own a factory produced one in case they run out of production in the future. My budget is extremely limited atm and my puzzle hobby has taken back stage.

Why do you think that a non-pillowed one from another company would be a KO?

Well, unless they can find a new mechanism, it would be hard not to be a KO.
Also, the brands you listed are known for their KO's.

I remember that. The edges were too poorly connected, because there is very little space to fit them. Something else pillowing remedies. :)

Though I am curious as to how Timur's flat design (or indeed, anyone else's, as several people have made them at this point) deals with that.

Well I am no puzzle designer, but I do believe that 3D printing is much more accurate and precise than injection molding. This might have something to do with it.

Not to mention expensive! A puzzle is really only a accurate as its mold, so produce a good mold, get a good puzzle, and visa-versa for crappy mold = crappy puzzle.

While there are incredibly accurate 3D printing techniques out there, the SLS process commonly used in puzzle making has far worse accuracy and reliability than injection molding. The advantage of 3D printing is that you can make anything without significant start up investment, and that any shape part, no matter how complex, can be made. With injection molding, the range of shapes you can make is limited because it has to be possible to remove the part from the mold.

Very nice but I definitely prefer the other version from the first photos. The triangles look much closer to being equilateral.

The white one looks more pillowed than the black one. Is this just an illusion? I am planning on buying it soon.

Probably. I assume that they are from the same mold, so they would be identical.

The white one appears to be the Reuleaux one from the original prototypes, where as the black one seems to be the less pillowed, newer version.

Awesome that they've got it up on Meffert now. Kinda lame though they've got the final black version sitting alongside the older white prototype photo. I ordered a black one from Jades Club about a month ago. Typically, I choose black when I have a choice, unless the puzzle has an extremely exotic geometry, or is curvy/ornate, then I get white. My white curvy copter is gorgeous, btw. Speaking of Jades Club, has anyone who ordered from the Jades site recieved their puzzle yet? If calvin has them in stock now, then the original Jades Club preorders should be already shipping across the globe. I've not recieved it yet.

Just ordered three from Calvin; two black and one white, along with some other tetrahedrons. I think it looks really nice, particularly from the latest picture of the black version. Congratulations again Timur!

Has another received this puzzle yet? I'm considering buying one and I would like to know how good of quality it is.
