I have an idea that no one has tried (i think)
But basically, how a skew turns into a skewb diamond...
If same additions applied to helicopter cube, wouldm't you have a edge turning octahedron that looks like a skweb diamond???
or would the edge turning be impossible??? :?: :?:

yes, but with my idea, wouldn't it look more like a skew diamond?

A puzzle which resembles cuts of another puzzle does not necessarily mean the cuts have the same resemblance in a different shape. The one that GuiltyBystander linked to also does have cuts that resemble the Skewb Diamond.

No. Eitan's versions is about the closest you can get to looking like a skewb diamond. Try looking at it again, you'll see there's no real cut that fits an edge turning cut.

You could make a very shallow curvy copter with only the edge centers and 24 helicopter cube triangles and the core into an octahedron.

I don't see a way to turn a helicopter cube into one though.

Edit:
Turns out you can turn a Curvy Copter into a ETO without introducing new pieces:

It isn't feasible to make the puzzle because the edges that meet at the corner are so thin and sharp even a tiny bit of filleting pulls the faces back a lot. The same is true of the sharp triangle / petal pieces that meet at a corner. They are so thin and sharp they can't be filleted without significantly changing their size and shape.

I'm making an animation of the puzzle rotating to show their general shapes and I'll post it when its done rendering.

I looked at both this and a face-turning version with the same cuts when I was making the Octadot puzzle, but came to the same conclusions as bmenrigh. The pieces get too thin to maintain the desired aesthetic once they are changed enough to actually be made.

Here's an animation of it that hopefully gives you an idea of the shapes of the pieces.

Maybe what awesomecuber wants is an edge turning octahedron that has overhangs in mid turn. If a circle is cut out of the Skewb Diamond like vertices those "additional" cuts that the heli octahedron shows on the surface could go. I don't know if those hollowings inside the puzzle would make the foot of the vertice pieces disapear entirely.

AHH that's what you'd like to see.
I can't figure out if those extensions would be able to move along by just looking at it.

It won't work. Even if you make the extensions infinetly thin and hollow, you run into a problem shown in my picture. The litte corner there cuts that other extension piece in two as it moves along. Same on the other side and for all the extension.

Those paths that they cut through each other would be those you see on Eitans fully functional extension. The "cutting corner" is always in the plane of the turning edge.
