Claus, very nice (and definitely very rare) puzzles as usual. But please, I beg you. As an image editor for the museum, please, please, PLEASE photograph the puzzles against a white sheet of paper. It makes the image editing job so much easier.

Hey Claus, I've been very inspired by your work in 3d printed extensions/puzzles. What kind of 3d printer do you use? I have a thingomatic (Should soon have access to a replicator) and I'm wondering if the print resolution will be good enough to produce puzzles of my own.

I gave up on edge detection / region detection / lasso tools. I just manually define the border path now. I still want something pure white and pure black in the image to aid in the white balance correction but it doesn't much matter to me what the background is.

Well, with a small amount of pre-processing, if the puzzle is on a white background I can get Photoshop to remove 50-75% of the background (whole process takes less than a minute), leaving me with less manual work. On Claus's "brown wood" backgrounds, it all has to be done manually

I thought white puzzles should be on a dark (oak) table. I am wrong.

Kapusta: I use a HP Dimension Color Printer. The resolution is 0.254 mm. This is enough for puzzles with extensions and it is useable for easy mechanisms.

But most of Greg's, TomZ's and Mark's puzzles need a resolution of less than 0.1 mm.

You are correct, I was talking about black puzzles. If the puzzle is white, use a dark background, but try to make it uniform and not patterned like wood, fabric etc. Sorry that I am being selfish here for those who take photos of their puzzles, I am making your job harder to make mine easier

The rhombcuboctahedron was made by Vadim 3 weeks ago. Search as "Trunkated V-skewb-X".

For the circled cube I used another middlepoint, one corner. My radius is exactly an edge lenght.

Maybe it's a wise question to ask; it's likely that some of the huge collectors and/or builders here have (relatively) good jobs or know how to do business.
Our next generation (NXTgen) probably wants to learn what decision best can be made regarding study and job to be able to afford to do the same.

My advise would not be 'rob a bank'.

My advise: if something has your interest and it's not hugely expensive you normally find a way to fund it from your regular income. As long as you don't want to buy things all at once. But have the patience to spread the purchases (in line with your income).

And: choose a study and job where YOUR capacities are (and your interests), where it helps as such capacity is not 'general available'. E.g. a surgeon is normally higher valued in salary than an HRM assistant.
And when you look at the 'who's who' profiles in this forum, you see many involved in ICT and technology. (Also in those areas are better choices than others. More architects currently are unemployed, but when they are employed they can do many creative things)

And that's why it kind of stinks being a thirteen year old cyber with no income

Well.... you can always do some car washing or do the dishes or so....
There must be something that will bring a parent to open the money pocket (good grades?).

Why did you orient the axis system of the "compound ..." like this?
I assume you wanted the cuts to be parallel to the base of the pyramids. Is that true?

BTW: A strange solid. If all 8 edges of the pyramids were of equals length that would be the first compound out of Johnson-solids. Cool!
