Seems interesting! Any means for DIY version?
Type 3: Any face can turn 270 degree.
So any difference between this type 3 & a normal 3x3x3 cube?

juanan wrote: What is the diffrence between Okamoto quarter cube and the 90° contrained cube? thanks The solving logic is similar, but we shall different setting on the starting angles of center flags (which I have to further check) and presentation method. And, we have different internal mechanism design. misterchris wrote: They look realy nice! Would black plastic be avaialble to? So any difference between this type 3 & a normal 3x3x3 cube? We shall have constrained cubes in small clear box and large display box as others. There are difference in solving and also the outlook. But, it will be easier to play as you can use the 3x3 formula in conditions.

I'm sure we'll see Tony review them as well. I especially enjoy the disassembly and assembly videos.

Is there a chance of a DIY kit version with all the centers? I'm not personally interested but I'm sure other people are.

I already have a Quarter Cube on its way to me so I'm going to pass on the 90 degree one and as pointed out the 270 degree one is no different than a normal 3x3x3 with the exception that it will slow down speed solvers (may have to make 3 counterclockwise moves instead of 1 clockwise, as an example). I will get the other 2, but maybe not until after they come out in black plastic.

I know the constrained cube was said to have a different configuration than the Quarter-Turn Latch Cube II, but does anyone know if I'd be able to take apart the puzzle and reconfigure the centers so that the two had the same set up?
Thanks, Chris

Here's my unboxing, demo and review including a look at corner cutting- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9bptkbWUCo . In terms of quality they remind me of the 4x4x6 i.e. very good. I am not a fan of the colouring and black with stickers would have looked really nice with the weird centres. Other wise I can't fault them

If you force a side clockwise or counterclockwise when you hit the turning limits, does the screws get overtightened or loosened? Or, is it designed such that the mechanism will break before any tightening or loosening of the centers occur?

It appears in the pictures that the centers are oversized, the corners are undersized, and the edges are rectangular. I'm guessing the centers had to be oversized so the mechansim parts could be large enough to function properly while providing enough strength. Besides the cosmetic appearance, the other drawback to this is that most of the parts are unlikely to be interchangeable with other 3x3x3 cube parts. Also this would have required additional molds to be made for these "special" shaped parts.
Doug.
