Today I'd like to introduce a puzzle I've called Dave's Diamond. More precisely, I'd like to introduce you to a magnetic proof-of-concept model of Dave's Diamond:Dave's Diamond is a hexagonal dipyramid, shaped such that slice planes at a certain angle through the origin of the puzzle have four-way symmetry. Each of the 12 resulting axes can turn in increments of 90 degrees. But when the puzzle is shape-shifted, only half of the axes remain available for turning. This set of axes are all at right angles to each other, so that Dave's Diamond can be thought of as two overlapping but rotationally offset 2x2x2 cubes.

Basically it's a 2x2+axis 2x2 in the shape of a hex dype I like it !!

Another weird and wonderful design. Just out of interest, why did you feel the need to do a proof of concept for this - or do you do this for all your puzzles, but this is the first time you have posted it?

I did a proof of concept model because the mechanical model was getting very complex, and I wanted to make sure that the puzzle would actually scramble well and be a good puzzle before devoting more time to developing a working mechanism. Plus, I already had the magnets sitting around, so I figured I'd put them to good use. I certainly don't do this for all my puzzles, I'd be completely broke if I did!

So, this is a hexagonal dipyramid. This is a pretty common shape mod of nxnxn puzzles. Does that mean that this could be turned into a cube? Or a tetrahedron? Or a cubeoctahedron? Or a half truncated cube? etc
