Hi Everyone,

I'm very happy to introduce my latest puzzle, the Octadot:

Octadot was developed after several people asked if my Diamond Delight puzzle could turn on the polar vertices. While the pentagonal dipyramid geometry won't allow that without some very different internal pieces, it occurred to me that this could be accomplished by dropping one side of the dipyramid to become an octahedron. The one problem was that the pieces become far too thin where they meet at the center of each face, but I used this as an opportunity to introduce a new piece. I think this dot piece makes the puzzle much more interesting, particularly since it is not obvious at first how it turns.

Here's a video of the Octadot.

You can also buy Octadot at my Shapeways shop.

Here are a few more pictures of the Octadot:

What a beautiful puzzle!

It seems like this puzzle is a subset of a 4x4x4/3x3x3 cube. I think the dots are corners. The edges are 3x3x3 edges, and the petal pieces are X-centers of a 4x4x4.

Does this sound right to you?

I'm pretty sure it's equivalent to Trajber's Octahedron.

Very nice puzzle. I love puzzles with unique aesthetic properties, such as the Curvy Copter, and this one. :)

Ah yes, I didn't see that the petals could not separate. The 4 are together one group -- a 3x3x3 center.

Very interesting looking. The dot and the 3 face pieces surrounding it remind me of an old-fashioned airplane propeller.

And a beautiful one.
