The typical sticker pattern for a black 3x3x3 is:

White opposite Yellow
Blue opposite Green
Red opposite Orange
With one corner being Red, White, and Blue clockwise.

I think for a white puzzle the White stickers are typically replaced with Black but I remember a discussion on here some time ago which I can't seen to find now that proposed using Purple instead of Black stickers on a white puzzle.

So what is your preference and why? And if you remember that discussion could you point me to it?

What is the advantage of using purple over black? Wouldn't it then make sense to do the opposite and use light pink instead of white on black cubes?

I'll stick with black/white because it's what I'm used to.

I can honestly say I love using white stickers on white cubes.

I voted "other" for white. I think it looks best on all cubes.

All my white puzzles have either purple or black. I voted purple because I think it looks pretty cool on my puzzles that have it. As far as white on white goes, I think it looks sort of cool on a new puzzle, but I hate when white puzzles have worn white stickers that are all dirty at the edges, ripped, or discolored. It makes the puzzle as a whole look worse than it would if there were a darker color there (eg black).

In the past I've tried to stick to the BOY colour scheme for 3x3s and the MF8 colour sheme for dodecahedrons. I was also disappointed when the Gem4 was released stickered because I couldn't match it to my pattern for the Gem3. I have recently been stickering a few dodecahedrons and I didn't have the MF8 colours, so I made up completely different schemes according to the colours I had.

My point: After solving puzzles without my standard colour scheme it makes you realise that you often use it as a crutch in your solving, if you vary the colour scheme it forces you to look for other `more relevant` points of reference in the puzzle.

I like the idea of purple replacing white, it's the complimentary colour to yellow. But I'm liking the idea of non-standard colour schemes more and more lately.. although it is easier to talk about `colours` in some non-symetrical puzzles in solving threads.

I have to second hawk here, I like white even on white plastic for a cubic puzzle.
For non-cubic puzzles (where coloring has not been so ingrained through speed solving) I find black to be the best and most logical.

I like to have variety in the looks of my puzzles, I think it's more exciting to explore new options each time
So for a new white 3x3, I would prefere to use dark purple, or maybe chocolate brown.

Often I replace my yellow stickers on black puzzles with purple. I find purple to be a nice contrast to white. On white puzzles, however, I keep the yellow and replace white with black.

White on white would be a big no no for me just as black on black. Never tried it but I wonder how original Skewb textured stickers would look on white.

I bet the that combination would be as bright as ten thousand suns haha, to use hyperbole
