So I thought of this today. The mixup cube (or at least, the mass produced ones + the mini mixup) is made of a 2x2 core. So, what if you used the core on Grigr's never 2x2 http://twistypuzzles.com/cgi-bin/puzzle.cgi?pkey=2057 to make the mixup cube? Could you have a void mixup?

Yes and no. It depends on what you mean by "void". Each edge and center could have a square hole in it (Like the void skewb). Some people might not consider that a void puzzle However, also remember that there are only 6 centers and that puzzle would have voided pieces in 18 spots. Not only would the voids not be that big, not all of them would go through the entire puzzle. So, ya, you could make that puzzle pretty easily, but it would look sort of weird and wouldn't exactly be "void."

A void mixup plus is possible but not a traditional one. Imagine a void mixup without the extra pieces. When solved it looks like a void cube. When scrambled however the 6 holes could surround a corner. Unless you have a solution for making pieces float in air, it is not possible.

By adding the plus pieces the problem is resolved. I designed a void mixup plus last year but didn't prototype it. I'll search it up and post design pics.

Yea but it was made in blender. I'm rebuilding it in SW for SW.

This is my version so far. The negatives are the center holes must be small and the puzzle will be less stable. The positives however are this is a 100% true Void Mixup Plus. The removed pieces are 100% hidden and will always be open. Except for preforming mixup moves and scrambling centers you could keep a pencil stuck between two. If all six centers are placed around a corner the bridge pieces hold it in place while the centers stay void.

Well this is what I've got. What does everyone else have since it has so many different possible ways to void?

Cool! Just got my Mixup not too long ago and I probably should have waited...

Any chance of this being mass produced?

The name of this cube can be: Mixup + Void = Mixoid
