Hi,

This is my first puzzle. It is basically a 3x3x3 mod. This puzzle has a unique way of bandaging. The two large corners on opposite sides can never be on the same edge.

I designed it in Solidworks and printed it from Shapeways. The stickers are from Oliver Nagy.

Thank you for all of the suggestions for names.

What a very cool puzzle. If I could name it I'd name it as: THE HIDDEN PETAL 3 cube. Reason behind this is, I think it looks like a flower with the edges as petals that are hidden under the corners and the "3" being a 3x3. What do you think of this name?

When I saw the face pattern it immediately reminded me of Gelatinbrain's 3.1.31 puzzle and the Complex 3x3x3. Too bad it's not physically possible to build without magnets or some other mechanism like that.

 awesome puzzle. The center and the edges looks like a control pad. :)

Two guys thinking the same thought.

Adam, can you redo the first image? This puzzle deserves better images.
I suggest something straightforward: "Bandaged Complex 3x3x3"

Yes it looks like flower petals, I suggest 'Lotus Cube'.

A very good idea for a 3x3x3 Mod. I'm looking forward to seeing your next puzzle.

I like that, it is just the sort of description I was hoping for. Thanks.

Make that 3 guys thinking along the same lines. Seeing this I immediately thought of the thread where the Complex 3x3x3 was worked out. Remember this image Matt Galla posted here.

Image

However I'd stop short of calling this a Complex 3x3x3 (bandaged or otherwise). While it appears to have 6 of the 12 inverted edges [UDLF] pieces they are attached to the corners so they don't move like the inverted edges. This puzzle therefore just contains normal 3x3x3 pieces so its a Bandaged 3x3x3. Granted its bandaged in a very interesting way.

As for naming... I see this pattern over lapping twice on each face.
Image

So I think what I'd do is place some colored stickers with striations on them on the unstickered surfaces of the smaller corners with a pattern similar to that seen here.
Image

And I'd call this the Fish Tail Cube. Since the "tails" are in the place of the edges you could make the base color of the sticker one of the neighboring face colors and the striations could be the color of the other face.

Carl

I have decided to call it the Lotus Cube. It's a bit more catchy.

Very interesting puzzle, and amazing that this is your first design! I like how you've left the edges "incomplete" to allow the unique bandaging method to function. I think you've also chosen a good name.

If you didn't like the idea related to the fish how about calling it the Compass Cube. The center of each face reminds me of this symbol.

I have renamed it. This puzzle shall henceforth be known as the Compass Cube. I searched the museum to make sure this name wasn't taken. Thank you for all of your suggestions.
