I used a mechanism on basis of strong cylindrical magnets and a metal sphere. To my mind it’s the best implementation so far as compared with a complete mechanical construction.
It twists smoothly, but sharp angles sometimes catches on on-turn. One should have to get used to this peculiarity.
Despite its very simple look, the puzzle is rather difficult to solve. It’s easy to restore cubic form, but not to carry out.

This is one of the better little chops that I have seen and the turning looks good, when aligned properly. When/will it be available?

There is no mechanism. There are magnets. The mechanism-less pieces can be viewed on the last picture.
