Hi!

After I've made the Gear Corner Turning Octahedron, I thougt that the same face pattern could apply for a tetrahedron too (to make a Gear Pyraminx with different gears ratio and face center element) and designed a Gear Halpern-Meier Tetrahedron. The whole designing process of this puzzle was captured by SolidWorks "Capture video" function. It does not track mouse movements or surfing the menus - it only captures the changes in the project window. So the activity that really takes 1 hour is saved as a 2-4 minute video.

You're welcome to see how a new puzzle is designed from an empty drawing board to the finished hollowed parts ready for 3D-printing at Shapeways. Here are the YouTube links to 4 video parts (total duration is ~17 min):
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4

I would love to see how other designers create puzzles with other CAD software, would someone share similar video? :D

Great videos Timur! Would it be possible in the future for you to make a tutorial explaining how to make gears? I'm not really too sure how you're going around making gears in the video, and I didn't really understand the written tutorial.

Those are great videos! I think I'll try to make a video like that next time I design a puzzle. Does Solidworks 2010 have the Capture Video function?

Maybe I'll finally be able to exercise my ability to upload videos longer than 10 minutes. :o

EDIT: Even better: I could make a complete video series on designing and casting the Betaminx. That'd be fun. Maybe I could get my videographer friend involved.

Mesmerising! But you could have shown the final puzzle at the end :( So, Tony, which is more worthy: hours of work in Soldiworks + Mr. Shapeways, or cutting, sanding, filling etc. in your shed?
